I know listening to exhaust sounds on a video is not ideal, but I think the Speciale's stock exhaust sounds great. Angry. Purposeful. Listen to the first 20 seconds of this video.

Nope. For the same reason, I won't be allowed to install it unless it's dealer installed and sanctioned by Ferrari.

    Hi Clarence

Maybe you can get Ital to permanently open up the vacuum line for the exhaust , did it for my 458 and it sure does makes it sound much better , especially in the lower revs band .

I am the guy whom was with you out in Sepang .

If volume is not the issue, maybe it's your driving style. Most modified exhaust like BMW, AMG, etc will have louder sound than Ferrari, but the high screaming sound is still Ferrari's trade mark, especially the 458.
IMO, never drive the car in Auto. And only upshift when reaching at least 6,000 rpm (the best is 8,000 in city driving). This way is actually better for the engine than upshifts at 3,000 rpm, because this is a high rev engine.
But with this type of driving, you need to maintain a huge distance with the car in the front.

Doesn't matter how u drive it, u are not gonna get the high pitched note with the stock exhaust in the Speciale.

Please keep us in mind if shopping for exhaust for your Speciale, currently we have the Capristo exhausts instock. Novitec can be shipped typically within the week.

If anyone has questions we are always available for help.

Get Novitec Exhaust complete form catalyst replacement pipe and power optimized exhaust system then you will get the sound you want. I personally hear in the person how the high pitch and loud the sound are.

Hey Clar - I'm coming to your defense.

I have a 2012 Italia and a 2015 Speciale. The italia sounds so much better up till about 5k RPM. I've grown to love the speciale after 5k ish but it just isn't the same. Definitely not as mean, but different and good.

I am severly disappointed with the speciale in low rpms though as well as the bark when you start the car. There is a significant difference in these two cars with sound. I drove a spider a little while ago and thats what the speciale sounds more like.

All in all, you're right, its bad.

absolutely CORRECT but the Scuderia wasn't an improvement on the F430 either @ low Rpms either

If Italia sounds better than Speciale, that means Ferrari is preparing the customers for the next turbocharged which would sound lame, just like the California T compared to Cali 30.
Technically the Speciale should sound better (higher and louder) than the Italia, because the engine is a tuned version of standard 458. It must be the Cat or the header.

My advice: change the cats to 200 cel high flow cats and put a novitec exhaust and headers with valve control capability but you will have to modify the ecu to avoid cel lights, esp. if you are like certain folks who favor running 100 aki fuel in their cars ;)

These mods will or course void warranty but you will get the sound you want, esp. changing the cats to high flow 200 cell cats, it's a literally before and after cat change thing.

As far as bringing back to pops and burbles of pre software update 2010 and 2011 coupes,
I dont know of any way to bring those back, you can try to pm Rossi46 I think he was successful in having his car reflashed with the factory mapping to bring them back

By the way I might change my 200 cell cats to 100 cell cats since I have found a way to get rid of my cel light using an obd II reader so she can be, believe or not, even LOUDER :D

    best

my car right after install of the 200 cel cats, she has gotten considerably louder now since the cats have broken in

Cant you just change the exhaust without Ferrari finding out? Take it back to the shop and get it back to stock when going in for any maintenance work. It should not be that often.

Yes but that would be a pain as you have to bring the car in yearly..

    That's not bad.

So 364 days of amazing sound 1 day pain in the ass. I think its a great trade off.

In the very likely (unknown?) event that the switch causes a problem, it's easy to remove it before returning the broken car to the dealer. The valve switch is a quick and easy mod. It does improve the situation but the sound still isn't great - especially for those of us coming from an Italia. TBH, I prefer the sound from my McLaren 650S overall. I'm surprised they signed the Speciale off with the exhaust sound it has. It's plenty loud enough but just not tuneful.

I agree the Speciale sounds weak. Running a Capritso Italia and now 599 GTO the disappointment in noise is going to be even more pronounced.

It seems from reading all your replies in this thread the novitec system seems far more highly regarded than the Capritso ? Is this correct ? Would you say it is the best exhaust on the market ?

It's a very small country, I'm afraid. I have signed up with them for regular grooming package, so it's not realistic. I also have the habit of going in every now and then for some simple carbon bits installation. I have written to Ferrari on this and maybe this thread might be useful in getting their attention.

From youtube videos thus far, the Novitec system does sound to be ideal for me. It gives the car that F1 high pitch scream, which I find incredibly exotic! Can't pull the trigger for now.

I am very wary about purchasing just on YouTube alone. I had the Capritso box on my italia which I was very happy with.....until I bought a 599 GTO ! Hoping I can find something as intoxicating as that now....in a v8 way.

On the warranty issue. Simply replacing the mufflers and associated exhaust pipes/tips will not void your warranty. Ferrari is fully aware that many owners opt for a different sound and they live with that. Obviously the exhaust itself will not be warrantied by Ferrari. But if you also replace cats and headers, you are now fiddling with the emissions and ECU. Then you are on your own. Of course if you are off warranty (like 458trofeo) it doesn't matter.

So you can install aftermarket cat-back exhausts if you think it will make the Speciale sound better, but if you want to go full gusto (as is usually what is featured in those marketing videos), caveat emptor.

No such thing as a V12 sound in a V8 way. Sorry. Wish it weren't so.

If I am getting a V12, it would be the next Aston Vantage V12 if they ever put in a proper gearbox. I know their cars are technically behind, but boy, do they stir! V12 Ferraris are not my cup of tea. They tend to be too big though things have gotten better with the F12, but its looks irked me.
