Don't know about Speciale, but I think 458 screams much higher than 430.

I wonder if the 458 Spider sounds so great because we are at 8k feet above sea level. It cracks and burbles wonderfully. More than F355 and 360 with Tubis. And I believe it sounds better now with 18k miles than when it was new. Love it.

Race mode except on the Interstate which is almost never.

My Spider is loud at sea level. To the point I can't have phone conversations. Of course it's always top down or rear window down and race mode. Substantially louder than my California with vacuum lines pulled.

I used to own a E92 M3 which had a Akrapovic EVO exhaust system (100 cell sport cats + muffler) before I owned my MY13 458 italia.
Sorry but there is no comparison between the 2. italia sounds in another league. It is only quiet under 2800 rpm.

The are different for sure...one sounds better, and yes, that's subjective.

    I've bad both too.

Hard to believe... Speciale sounds good to me. In fact, I think I'll buy one.

I'm actually concerned as mine will be here soon. IPE will be building a system for the Speciale... I will probably go that route.

No complaints from me. Quiet at idle and up to 2500 rpm, above that all grins.

If you are not happy with the sound and don't want to modify the exhaust, just sell it and find a new car as somebody suggested.

if you still want to keep it, go in a different garage and change the exhaust system as you desire. When you have a maintenance or issue have it changed first before going to Ferrari dealer and get it back after.

It would be completely wrong to change the car just based on sound alone. It's such an amazing car in every other aspect!

One question that keeps popping into my head, when reading about changing the exhaust back if a service is needed, is this. Let's say you stick with oem manifolds or cats, and replace the rest with x brand exhaust. Then when you take the car to the shop, part of the exhaust will be "worn", and part of it will be as new. I'd say a mechanic would notice that. Even if one replace the entire system, and then bring in a car with, say 3000 miles on it, and the exhaust looks like it came straight from the factory. Even if the car is not driven in the rain, an exhaust that gets hot, will show some corrosion as the heat accelerate this process. Don't get me wrong, I think it's absolutely insane, that they will void the warranty due to an aftermarket exhaust from a reputable manufacture like Novitec or Fabspeed, at least if you don't do an ECU mod and use stock cats.

Sound is one of the key emotions for many, like music, if you don't like it this issue won't go away

Not sure that just changing the muffler and exhaust tips would do anything to the warranty. There are numerous comments, from those much more informed than I, on the subject that you can find by searching the forum.

Personally, I agree that the Speciale could have a louder exhaust note. I'm going to wait until I have driven it about 2,000 miles and if it's still too soft I'll get a Capristo or other OEM muffler.

I spoke to Ferrari about fitment of the challenge cats and their first thought was that they May be quieter than stock due to track drive by limits. I emailed novitec Germany but no reply...

Don't change it, it could be your exhaust is still new. You need some hardcore driving on Race mode for some 1,000 kms for the scream to kick in.
If you think this doesn't sound enough, then there is nothing stock would sound enough too. Other options like 650s sounds 100 times worse than this. It's like a huge vacuum cleaner.

Went for an early morning drive up North in Malaysia with another fellow Speciale owner and got to hear his exhaust from behind. I must say it sounds a lot better for bystanders. I agree that I should probably drive the car harder. Let's hope this brings out more of that howl!

I have been driving for 12,000 kms, and after 5,000 kms only I knew how to make the car scream in city driving. What you heard as a bystander is what you would hear when driving a spider. But Speciale should scream even higher than 458.

It's important to note that with "great power", comes great responsibility. I don't want to be that ****** bag banging my engine off the rev limiter in city driving especially in traffic. A balance needs to be struck between having fun and social responsibility. I will reserve those sky high rev for early morning blasts in secluded stretches of B roads...

I am always amazed at these threads about exhaust mods and one of the key warranty issues that can be avoided. My Ferrari authorized dealer told me that in fact, TUBI makes part of the exhaust. As such, putting on a TUBI "by the dealer" DOES NOT void the warranty! You are welcome to check with your dealer in whatever country or state you live in to see if they will honor what my dealer says is "kosher."

I do know how many times I need to repeat myself on this. Warranty issues and regulations are specific to your country and sometimes, stealership. What works in one country does not necessary means it's applicable the world over. I have said many times that my service manager has categorically declared any aftermarket mods as forbidden. I have also seen the formal letter from Ferrari Far East to the dealer to enforce this regulation. THERE IS NO GRAY AREA at least in my country!

What about remote switch with your stock exhaust? I have this on my 458 and it is great. It was also dealer installed. All it does is open your baffles all the time. Just as stock but valves will be open as you desire. Worth looking into. Remember it will still be factory stock.
