I'm not sure what it would bring, but a Countach similarly-modified to 1120004 just sold privately for a low price. The owner is on here, perhaps he will chime in.

    1120086

    1120088

    1120110

    1120136

    1120158

    1120234

These are all examples of cars that sold for low prices (relative to the market high at the time) because they were in poor or rough condition.

Obviously they are worth more now.

As I mentioned, even the LP400 Prototipo that exists in the Museo sold for less than current LP400 market at the time because of its poor condition.

1120001 sold at a record price at the time of sale - if we don't count the prices that were paid a decade before. At least it was the most expensive LP400 sold around the year 2000. Raymond, who found the car, could tell us more.

1120002 was privately offered at a high price - I am speaking about the prices paid at the time of sale - nine years ago. Then it went to Harold from Norway.

1120004 sold cheap, yes. Maybe due to problems with the erased chassis number?

1120006 - ex Walter Wolf car - never seen car

1120008 sold at a high price to Argentina (brokered by Walter, as you know). I am again talking about the price level paid at the time of sale.

1120010 recently sold at a record price.

1120012 sold at a very high price in 2005 or 2006. In 2005, it was in bad conditions, but it was the most expensive LP400 offered on the public market.

    I was not speaking of later cars such as 1120086, 1120088, 1120110, 1120136, 1120158, 1120234.

In the end, why can't we simply agree to disagree and continue discussing the Anniversario in this thread? EDIT: I see you already did, good move!

By way of apology to all 25th fans who have to read this early-LP400 drivel, here is a great video which I have not yet posted here.

    Enjoy, and Happy Halloween!

There are few cars who's value is effected greatly or at all by prior ownership unless it's had McQueen's name in the title work. So if some Italian sports figure owned it, it's meaningless in the LP400's case. Early chassis numbers influence certain cars's value but I am not aware of it having any effect in LP400's case.
As far condition of these rare cars. Every one evaluates differently. I for one would want to buy a car right knowing there is a long and an expensive journey involved to restore it at what I perceive is the right price. Forecasting the end result and building in a contingency so you know you're not too far upside down is always important to me. So when an LP400 trades for a crazy number where another few hundred grand need to be spend to get it right it makes you wonder what the new owner is thinking. That said, with the small production run of the LP400 the high prices paid does not surprise me as they are on par with the Miura SV's rarity and desirability so it can be justified to some degree. I guess we may see top examples trading for $2.3-2.5MM very soon.

From a performance stand point, my 930 rocks. But the Countach always gets the looks. Thanks for posting Joe

Speaking about prior owners, years ago, Mario Andretti's Countach was for sale for years. It was in such poor shape and priced above market, I would not even waste my time to look at it. I really could care less who owned a particular car before. What really counts is price and condition in the present time.

I estimate the 1120004 today would break the bank! $1-1.2MM at the right setting (auction setting) with just the right balance of lighting and whiskey flowing...
Scary thoughts when you consider that not so long ago the LP400 were $500-700k max...

  11. Your 930 is not stocked though? Mine is sport bike fast. I've owned it for 3 years, and it is still shocking what it will do. I still prefer the Countach - not everything has to be a drag race to enjoy it. Regardless, it is super cool to own both! And yes, thank you for posting all of material Joe.

Your photo collection never ceases to amaze Joe. Love it. The first photo made me think about water damage. Any cars destroyed in Katrina or other floods/hurricanes?

Maybe, but Mario Andretti means a lot of things to a lot of people. Even if it doesn't effect value it's a GREAT story to tell.

Geno, I understand your point of view that started the non 25th discussion in this thread.
I agree that SV and LP400 are on par in terms of rarity and desirability, just as you say. The $2.3-2.5m price tag I don't see, I think that it's enough now, but what do I know? We will see.

Back to Anniversarios which also are super cars.

What type of sport bike are you referring to ? :D

    o/t

A gray/silver and black color Diablo was flooded.

I believe it was a SV.

A thread was posted on-line by the person who worked on fixing the car.

Countach prices are all over this board. As average 25th seem to go for $350K this summer, unless the rise is still on and my info is obsolete already..

  23. Does it have sport seats, carbed, what colors, mileage, and shape? There is a big spread from a barn find to a near zero mile garage queen. If someone offered a decent car for 200k, it would be gone faster than you could tie your shoes (and flipped soon afterwards), if that helps. The market will floor someone that has taken a sabbatical for the last year and a half.

  24. I think that still is a good off the hip number for a fuel injected very nice car.

I thought there was a Anni that got its toes wet in Katrina or Sandy? Sorry I don't remember for sure.
