good luck with that one. I think there are only 30 or so in the USA and the owners all know how valuable their cars are.
I have one in the UK with the HGTE package..... Comprador please let me know your views on the car, I would love to hear your thoughts. Kind regards
Ill post them here.. if mods have an issue with that they can move the thread or delete it. I had a 08 599 6sp. as well as a CS and a 430 coupe 6 sp. all at the same time. I only wanted a 6 sp 599 and looked at 3 before I bought mine. After I bought mine, FNA said there were 48 made but when I checked with Italy, they said they couldn't tell me how many were actually produced. They did say however that they stopped production on the gated models because of the issue between the enzo engine and the transmission. Ferrari apparently didn't really do a ton of changes on the tranny when they matched it with the motor in the 599. Im ALL about MT cars and thus the reason most of mine have 3 pedals. My F430 shifted like a dream after warming up for 2-3 minutes. The 599 however was BRUTAL. I even read threads on F Chat before buying mine that said the same thing but I dint believe them. I should have. Starting in 1st is almost impossible as you need to shift before 2000 RPMs. Otherwise the gear won't engage into 2nd. 2nd to 3rd is better but still a little rough. 3rd on up are fine and the car is really fun to shift. The previous owner of my car used a ton of clutch and as a result I had to replace it for 8K within a month of owning it. Solution was starting it in 2nd but thats not always available in some driving conditions. Its a great car but REALLY hard to drive at love speeds.
Craig- You are about the only person who has a three pedal 599 who has anything bad to say about them. Just about all the other owners love theirs, so your opinion is a bit different from most. Why would you want to start her in second and wear the clutch at an accelerated rate?
Ha, well I will have to politely disagree with your post. Its not a hard car to drive at all, and i'm sure as hell not starting it in 2nd. Its very simple, the car has a very light flywheel, thats it. Not a big deal.
maybe the Ferrari PR machine is in full swing encouraging customers to discourage anyone form wanting the manual. Sounds like something they would do.
Would be great to hear from more owners here. When I asked the Ferrari rep about the manual 599 he just shook his head no. When I asked him to elaborate he wouldn't. He just said trust me. So hearing from more owners would be really informative.
Automobile Magazine has a lot of Ferrari coverage and one article features a Manual 599. No complaints from THAT owner. Jack
towing the Ferrari line to dissuade owners. I'm really starting to believe this more and more. Just look at the resale values and what people want. Ferrari owners won't be happy if resale value doesn't hold.
Go to the 599 forum section and read through the threads there after a search for "599 manual". You will find that the only naysayers among actual owners is Craig (if he still has one). The vast majority of owners love the three pedal 599. Looks like we are all whistling Dixie since the OP has not returned.
This argument holds no validity because financially they could brag about their "mistake" saving them residual value!
haha.. reading all the posts is making me laugh. The 599 6 sp was about the 85th car I've owned in my life so I do have a few previous MT cars to compare it to.. NO ONE loves MT cars more than me.. just ask the sales people at the Ferrari/Aston dealers on the East Coast. For whatever reason my 599 was awful to drive in the lower gears. The reason why i'd have to start in 2nd gear some days is that the car would not shift out of 1st into 2nd at anything over 1800 RPMs. So you'd have to limp the car of the line to get a decent shift. Pretty plain and simple. Not sure there is some conspiracy from Ferrari and don't think the "i paid a lot for my car, so I'm not going to complain makes sense either. I love Ferraris.. just not that one. And to conclude if anyone still REALLY wants one, mine might be for sale again soon from the new owner.
Full disclosure: I've never driven one. I had an appointment to drive one at Ferrari of Silicon Valley, but it sold the day before my visit. The new owner put it back up for sale two months later for unclear reasons. A former F-salesman did his best to discourage me, reporting that one he had sold had simply stopped in heavy freeway traffic and almost killed its owner. He said that the ecu was incompatible with the 3-pedal. I heard the same thing from an F-salesman (with close mutual friends) in FL who discouraged me from considering a 599 6-speed he had for sale! Anyway, it's still all hearsay. I'd love to hear from a former owner with no skin in the game--- I ended up with a 3-pedal 430 that I love and shifts as easily and sensuously as my old 456GT. C'mon, Ferrari--- how's about some new 3-pedal cars?
