    Very cool. Is it true tge NASA U2 has stopped at Ellington a few times? I love Ellington there always seems to be something cool. Are they flying the predators out of Ellington?

    That sure looks a bit different than the original KC-97's on which I worked in 1951 at Renton. The best thing that ever happened to that airplane was the installation of gas turbine engines. Still a best.

    The plane pictured above is basically the same plane but a later version with turboprops.

    Called the 'Super Guppy'.


    There was also a Mini-Guppy that was a little smaller.

    And they were not just built for NASA... even AirBus bought one.

    Airbus actually bought several, all of the available Super Guppies, in fact. I believe that the engines and nacelles were identical to those on the Lockheed Electra and thus similar to those on the Orion.

    I should have said, " Still a beast." I know guys who flew them in the military and for Northwest Airlines and that took a full flight deck and some hard working flight engineers and sharp pilots to keep it in the air. Complex, complicated, and contrary.
