I'm not really a fan of the 599. The thing is huge in size, road noise is rather loud for a car in that price range (cheap cavalier comes to mind). But it's fast as hell, but I have never felt truly comfortable behined the wheel of one. I don't like the interior either.

Friend in SC just purchase an 85 single mirror black for 50. Belt needed, but says paint is so good looked like a repaint, etc. I would have thought all of these should be 70k by now.

The 50 he paid is about right, considering it needs it's engine out, and who knows what else.

Tell us more about this car - mileage, books, tools, records, etc? Accident history if re-painted? FYI, I just picked up an 86 w/17k miles a couple of weeks ago - car was a 99 point car at FCA nationals in 2010

Hey will do as soon as I know more. Seems this person was a long time owner one of my friends stumbled across in the country a while back while out driving. I think your car was a deal!

One thing I do know for a fact is that Bradwilliams brought his TR for the car.. Not the money. Ask me how I know.. lol..

I've seen a Countach close up.. Sat in one.. and even driven one.. Nothing about the car I like.. I understand it is an icon for its time.. The car does nothing for me..

Well that's good news and I suspect more owners bought in for the right reason. Jeez, the car has had only a modest uptick in value and people are going crazy about the the $$$. Imagine when the first flying mirror makes $250,000...you won't be fielding any diff or fuse box questions then!

I think we're hitting the peak of the bubble now. Whenever the brokers are buying and hoarding, you know something is amiss. Those guys don't buy cars to keep, they buy to sell. They are definitely manipulating the market at this point. And yes, the uptick has been modest, but not so with the 512tr and 512m cars. That is a SERIOUS ascent.

Anyone have a rough idea of much the CNC 512TR sold for(ie. > $130)? It was listed at $149K, and had 30,000 miles on it.

I think it still has legs. I'm actually looking FORWARD to the collapse. Might get another shot at an F40, or at least there will be plenty of nicely restored Dinos available. Its not until my cab driver or coffee barista starts talking about how they have a share in a Ferrari that I will concede 'the top'...!

I think it will keep going unless the economy takes a nose dive. Even a stagnant economy is good for collector cars. If the stock market is flat, people want to put their money somewhere.

Too many more millionaire/ billionaires this time around when the landing happens, the same amount of cars still exists. Those car prices won't fall. Even if a Dino or two went back down to 150k - I doubt you would see every owner that paid 400 start dumping.
Time will tell - but I wouldn't hold your breath on that f40. I gave up on holding mine :)

I fear you could be right...I at least hedged up with a CS...I wasn't going to let that one get away before it went to the stratosphere. I also follow BMW and Porsche, and the best 'value' I am finding is in cars about 10 years old, that are literally being dumped on the market as owners either trade up to a newer model, or to a classic. I'll be looking at how far F12s have sunk in 5 years time, as I too am giving up hope on sub 250 F40s.

    I'll just leave this here:

    Lap times at Fiorano
    Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano______1:26.5
    Ferrari 612 Scaglietti_________1:30.50
    Ferrari 575 Maranello________1:31.51
    Ferrari 550 Maranello________1:32.53
    Ferrari 512 TR______________1:35.00
    Ferrari 456 GT______________1:35.00
    Ferrari Testarossa___________1:40.60

    Ferrari F40_________________1:29.60

They made thousands more TRs than any other model, listed above. From my driving experience, both TRs and Boxers are more GT than sport car - but, most of you already know that. So, this comparison is valid. The track times should give you a good perspective of what the cars can actually do against other V12 GT and GT 2+2 Ferraris - as apposed to the usual "real or imagined" non-sense. (I included the legendary F40 for comparison).

I purchased a Boxer, because - to me - it was an edgier car; even though the TR was probably better. But neither is track material. I actually did race my 512 BBi once around Road Atlanta - never been so scared in my life. :) My current Ferrari (612 HGTS) could probably run circles around both of those cars.

Bottom line: Your not buying the TR for performance (see above), nor investment (too many made). I agree with those who profess to buy it for the "Ferrari" experience - those are the owners who really get it.

And yet the Dino is the slowest and most expensive of all the cars you mentioned with 3,700 + units built ... Bottom line , another post slamming the Testarossa from another non owner how thinks he gets it, what do you get since you don't own a Testarossa ? Tell us.

Tell me .... Too many made in comparison to what exactly ? Corvettes, Porsches ?

Speaking of hoarding this dealer in Pompano Beach, Florida has about 20+ TR's he's been keeping for this moment. When I was looking for one I called them 3 months ago and prices ranged from $50-$70K. I called him today and prices started at $105K for the same exact cars. He plans on sending a few to the Monterrey auctions this winter. It will be interesting to say the least.
Once I secure my flying mirror car I am on the hunt for another early Diablo.
Bill, I am interested if you want to sell it back ;)

    Hi,

I know it`s not important in real life - but the only time I can find is `84 Testarossa: 1:36 - the same as the 288 GTO also at 1:36.

Pretty amazing for the comfy Testarossa "GT" compared to a no compromise 288 GTO "performance" car!

In just a few months it will be interesting to see if prices are affected by the Testarossa hitting 30 years. Many European countries have very low import duties/taxes on Classic cars and maybe we will see 1985 models shipped back to Europe. (I suppose the only downside is the US/CH exhausts)

With the current increase in asking prices it may not be as many cars as if the asking price and the dollar was low. Seems like the avg asking price is Euro 65k nowadays, source mobile.de / subito.it.

This happened with e.g. the early 911SC (78/79), very nice cars would sell for $12k back in 2008 and just a few years later they are asking $20k,.. today the going price seem to be close to $30k for an early SC in vgc! Of course, 2008 was a horrible year for the economics but you could follow the thread on nice cars in the pelican forum ... " heading back to germany" / "sold to europe" etc etc :)

A lot of people - me included - would love to take advantage of a market who's bottom falls out.

And that is exactly why it won't happen. Unfortunately.

I like to frame it as a win-win: I already own, so I gain in a bullish market. And I'd like to own more, so I gain in a bearish market. :)

Wow, three 512TR's on Ebay right now with an average asking price of $175k. Also a 512M for close to $300K.

There is a clone of my car also up for bid. Same year and color combo (Whit/Tan) but with 3000 more miles and in need of a major. Current bid $74 with 2 days to go. It will be interesting to see what it goes for. If it sells.....Im upping my insurance coverage.

From these list, only the TRs and F40 got what it takes to turn heads wherever it goes.

612 is one of the final candidates on my daily use list. If I would to get it, I will probably delete all badges and take advantage of 612's somewhat anonymous shape.
