Hi 360c, I am currently using SunPower panels from the U.S, mine are rated at 315watts per panel, but I believe they are now making 350watt panels. SunPower have placed the transistors behind the silicone wafer so no shadowing. With these larger wattage panels you can fit more wattage on your roof area, but they cost a little more than the other brands but do have a 25 year warranty.
360c - I'm looking at doing the same sort of system for an off-grid house I'm building overseas. For batteries you might take a look at Aquion Energy and their AHI batteries - far better than lead-acid or lithium ion. if you PM me your email address, I'd be happy to send you the latest details they sent me on their batteries.

I thought it was pretty good myself. 2 for the price of 1 against Shannons. Where the RACV really stands out for me is the Total Care package. The benefits are substantial = repatriation from anywhere in Australia to your repairer. Hotel rooms ect following breakdown. & they are good for it too; do not quibble. Would not be without it. Came back to Melbourne once; a car on & me in the flat tray from SA: No cost !

I had a fail to start, in my FJ 75 the other week & as I pay the money, called them. Formulae questions on the phone & to my dismay; sent a battery sales vehicle manned by a big shiny tattooed brother; from the land of the wrong white cloud. He gets out a brain which analyses the car & local economy which tells us my battery has lost over 33% of its cranking capacity & needs to be replaced. He calls the patrol car as I am clearly a little pissy = another wait & is sent off; sans sale. I am then rescued by a sub continental warrior who massages the starter motor into service using a light ball peen hammer. Return immediately' clutching receipt, to batteries point of sale 14 months ago where battery tests out as AOK; but alternator output bare minimum. You tell me what's going on ? Yes unfortunately #**** ! Q: how can you tell when a kiwi has been in the fridge ? A: There is a Love bite on the leg of lamb.

I would check the battery earth lead is well connected and earthing properly. Been there and had this problem and the first result of a bad earth there is the alternator *****ting itself and then of course the battery wears out ... So you end up replacing the battery and getting the alternator fixed and the process repeats itself ... if I ever have this problem again I will weld the fncken earth lead with my MIG welder to the cars body!. The battery in the Cali failed 30 days after the 3 year battery warranty ran out, but it was not covered by the extended warranty I had. Its located under the air intakes and right in front of the engine, one expensive battery install?
The most bizarre 'failure to start' I've ever had in the Bambi was when a small fabric tool roll somehow ended up on top of the battery with the spanner inside neatly across the battery electrodes!
So, I was at STi Docklands yesterday getting my car serviced and the dedicated garage is no longer available. Subaru has sub let the space and it is now a Rolls Royce, Aston Martin and McLaren dealer service centre. Looks like they also do the dealer delivery on new cars too....
