I think 700+ is pretty rare compared to the total 308 build number of 11,431. Especially the case of the rhd cars,
154 built of which only 80 odd are supposed to be left.

That is not true. In fact most of the swaps are not due to accident I would postulate. In the early 80's there was not the same mentality of originality as there is now. Many people swapped the rear lenses to make their car look more modern or "new" than it was and so a simple swap would do the the trick. Of course others would also swap the bumper too to complete the illusion. This of course did not apply only to Ferrari's. The number of older 911's made to look like newer ones was huge.
Times now have changed of course, and people are making their newer 911's look like old ones...... Crazy human mentality.....

The same happened to the 63 corvette split Windows. Owners were buying 64 window and cut the center post for the newer look.

Fair enough. I've never actually heard of anyone doing that, but we have a relatively small market here in Aus.

Interesting. I see you have the "Y" shaped pipe coming out of the oil tank, which is usually a sign of a very early car, but you also have the aluminum shield to protect the distributor from water, which was not in early cars. Could you give us the chassis number and assembly number (you can find the latest one on the oil radiator mounting)?

Beautiful car, by the way, congratulations and enjoy it in good health!

The chassis number is 18899. I don't have access to the car at the moment to get to the assembly number. I noticed that is has two distributor shields, the one that you mentioned as well as the one on the underside of the deck lid.

That is early in the food chain .... Nice number !

The hard part was getting the car, cleaning it up and throwing as much money at it as you wish is the easier part now, time to enjoy and savor it.

Again, congrats, and enjoy it in good long health ! I can't wait to eventually see the car.

Very early number indeed, I can't wait to hear the assembly number!

Regarding the shields, I would say the aluminum one was added later, as they didn't appear so early in production. The one on the deck lid on the other hand is perfectly right. You got yourself a very nice car!

    Hi guys
I notice the number plate panel on this euro spec vr is flat.

Would a us spec Vrs have a different rear panel
with the intentation for where the number plate goes?

I think one of the distinguishing features of all VRs is that there is no number plate indentation. That's one of the quick ways of spotting a VR no?

Thanks, when I looked in the Registry, it appears to be one of the first 50 or so. I agree that the hard part is behind me now, not a fun process bringing the car over. Weeks would go by without a single update on status, none. Not even a confirmation regarding the physical location of the car, let alone when the car is expected to arrive. You can easily determine the status of a small package on a UPS or FedEx website, however, determining the location of a whole car is another story. Regardless, I am looking forward to enjoying this one for a long time!

Nice exhaust that you have there. Did that come with the car when you bought it or was that replaced during the restoration process?

    The car looks great!

    Not far from mine! 18881!
Where can you find the assembly number? I think mine is 46 but I'd like to verify!
