Hi! I'm only 12 years old (born in 2001), and as mature as I am I've already started thinking about my career.. No, not like "I want to be Ronaldo", but something more seriously..

I live in Norway, and my dream car was 458 Italia, until I saw the sexy 458 Speciale. You know, here in Norway we have a lot of taxes, so many sportcars costs like 150000 dollar more than in the USA. Houses here are really expensive too.. Like 750000 dollar for a normal house, but in the US I see that you can get a house for like 150000 dollar with a freaking swimming pool! So what has this to do with a Ferrari to do? Well, my plan is to work and study here in Norway for a few years, and as stupid as it may sound; perhaps move to USA to get a nice house and a 458 Speciale. Of course I won't move until I'm like 21 years old or so, but I was just thinking about this.. As said I really love Ferraris, and every day I watch like 10 videos of the 458 Speciale, and read 15 threads here. Of course there is going to be new cars when I grow up, but I wish that I was older..

Does this sound as a stupid idea? Would it look stupid if I only got a normal job, but had a Ferrari? Are you Ferrari owners rich, or do you have a normal job? (Answer if you own a Ferrari). What do you recommend me to do? What should I study? What job should I choose? Any tips? Please answer from your own experience, I'm dying to get older and buy a Ferrari, but as said I'll probably have to move to USA.

    Thanks.

Welcome to Fchat. Great dream to have. Find a job that you love to do, save and the dream will come true some day. Many factors will determine when. But don't rush your life. Enjoy your young years. Time goes by way too fast.

    Good luck, Al

A car is a car no matter what. You can only drive it or park it. Plan ahead to keep your body in shape so that when time comes you can enjoy fully. It is sad to watch old men return to mb for comfort because they can not enjoy the ride anymore.
Other than this, there is not much to do to have ferrari but work hard or born again rich :)
However, you will have other hobbies lovers family oneday and make harmony and balance with all these are more important than just having ferrari. Driving ferrari itself can not give you any more enjoyment than driving. Its the balance of your other important things with ferrari that most counts. At least it is my case.
You can drive the whole day but your stress will be there after drive. It will not cure you. Have to deal with life first then reward it with morning blast :)
    Best luck

First of all, welcome to FChat.
It's really nice to see young people interested in cars (and Ferrari of course), so "in love".
I am a little bit older than you, I have 18 years old. I am studying Mechanic Engineering and I have the dream to work in a good company and hereafter buy a Cavallino Rampante. For that, I need to follow a simple recipe: work, study and "fight". Give up is not on my dictionary.
Never stop believing, everything is possible :)

Outside of the entertainment industry and the like, there are very few jobs that pay enough to buy new Ferraris - company CEO, investment banker, top lawyer or doctor - all of which entail massive amounts of hard work which means you have very little free time. Otherwise new Ferraris are mostly owned by entrepreneurs or business people who often have the free time to enjoy them. It all boils down to risk, entrepreneurs do what other people won't do and if successful then enjoy things that other people can't have. Older cars are much cheaper to buy so can be bought by people on more modest incomes.

In our neck of the woods, you do need to make a pretty good living to afford these cars. My wife and I live in Denmark. 12% import tax, 189% registering tax and 25% VAT. Then comes the environmental tax and high petrol prices. Anyway. There's a lot of great advice given here, and hard work and a bit of luck is needed. As said, up here, few jobs pay enough. Starting a well running business and making successful investments are key. Real estate and brokerage can work very well. An acquaintance of mine since childhood, who we thought would never amount to anything, managed to earn a fortune of approx 400+ mill dkr. over an 8 year period on investments in real estate, and he's still going strong. He changes cars like others changes socks. It can be done. However, remember that you are only 12 years old. Many things can happen and your priorities may change. You might meet a girl with whom you will want to spend a lot of time, and money and fast cars may not be on the top of your list. Some people might earn a good living, but some of them are the sorriest bunch of grumpy sods I've ever met. They look like they have it all, but they don't. Don't forget those around you and to have fun. Otherwise it's pointless. Luckily I met a bright girl who is as much of a work-o-holic as me, and we run our business together. If we didn't, we wouldn't have seen much of each other in the first years, and I bet you anything, that we wouldn't have been together now if that was the case. We've also chosen not have kids and other things has been set aside for work. Trust me mate, you don't know where you'll be in 5 years.

In short, there simply are no sure recipe for getting rich. Live your life, do what you like and don't miss the precious moments. Dreams of fortune are great and can be an impressive driving force, just don't let them get in your way.

Good luck and all the best from here.

Regardless of the profession or business, most successful people know how to sell. What I learned waiting tables in college is more valuable to me today than what I learned in college. Figure out how to sell, and then sell whatever it is you do, make or offer.

All I can say is to work hard and be relentless in your pursuit of success. When in school, never settle for anything less than an A in every class. When you get into the workforce, strive to be the best at whatever profession you choose (whether it's law, banking, an entrepreneurial endeavor or whatever it is). If you follow that simple advice you'll make it.

Also, try not to get married too early. :)

In addition to the above: always surround yourself with people who you admire or want to be like. Hopefully some of their habits and luck will transfer to you passively or actively if they admire your intelligence, hard work and grit and give you a chance... Most here will tell you their success came because some kind person took a risk on them.

Welcome to Fchat! You have already started on your path with the attitude you have adopted. Attitude is everything, patience is mandatory, drive is necessary and a positive attitude in the darkest hours. Success is not measured by your cars, money or achievements…its measured by the smile on your face and the satisfaction of mind. Go all out for everything you believe in, set high goals for yourself and push yourself hard. I wish you the best, and in a few years time I hope to see you post a pic of your car in your driveway!

It's wonderful to see new enthusiasts. My youngest son is also 12 and loves working on and riding in my cars, especially the Ferrari.

I would recommend not getting fixated on the one and only model. There are so many great F-cars, many of which are bargains compared to the 458. But as time goes on your means will increase if you work hard and manage your career. It will even seem easy if you find something you like to do, and surround yourself with great people.

Also as time goes on the 458 will depreciate, hitting bottom in about 20 years, but falling off quite a lot in the 1st 5 to 10. The Speciale will probably hold its value more that a base model, but time will tell. By then there will be newer, faster, "better" Ferraris, but the 458 you love now will still be the same car, and hopefully much cheaper!

For now I wouldn't worry about where you should live. By all means come visit the US and see if you like it. Remember though that the US is a huge place with many very different areas. It's really like 50 different small countries in one. I would personally recommend visiting New York City, San Francisco and the surrounding area, Southern California, particularly Orange County and San Diego, Denver (where I live), Seattle/Portland, Florida, and Texas. Even that just scratches the surface. And if you ever do move here some day, don't feel like you have to live in one place forever, I've moved around a lot and really enjoyed living in different states.

For now since you can't even drive yet, I would recommend going to any car shows or gatherings that you can. Talk to the owners, don't feel intimidated, most owners love talking about their cars almost as much as they like driving them. If you really like a car, ask nicely if you can sit in it. Ask if you can sit in the passenger seat while they start it up. Maybe you can even get a ride if it's ok with your parents.

Most of all, keep dreaming and never stop striving. It will take some time but it can be done. And never forget to enjoy what you already have.

    Cheers, and good luck!

This is very sound advice. And to add to this - Also surround yourself with those who know what you don't. Even the best of the best, don't know everything. Make sure that the best people in your field work with, or for YOU, not the competition. NOBODY makes it alone.

There are so many advises already for you young man…. I love to see you have a dream to strive. Buying a car is not the only target to achieve in life… may be it becomes one of goal but definitely that is not the only one … Open your mind and not to follow your enthusiasm focus only to the car. Never give up to strive your dream and keep them balance to make a happy life.

Anything is definitely possible! Here I am, a labourer (albeit a well paid labourer) and I will be receiving my factory ordered 2015 Speciale in just a couple of days.
When I was twelve years old, I can recall seeing my first Cadillac (a 1978 coupe de'ville) and thinking to myself; I'm going to own one, one day. Obviously, you have much better taste in vehicles than I did at your age.
Nevertheless; I have always believed that with lots of hard work (and obviously a little luck), anything can be accomplished. There are are far too many millionaires in the world for this to be an impossibility.
Due to personal circumstances, I was not able to complete my post secondary education; although a higher level of education would have greatly aided in accomplishing my goals, within a shorter period of time.
It is important to set specific "attainable" goals for each day, week, and year so that we all have something to strive for. I say "attainable", because what we can attain at one particular period in time will change throughout your lifetime. If you do not reach or accomplish something regularly, it can often be discouraging and reduce the enthusiasm to required to reach the next level. Keep in mind; that there can always be something that may take precedence over your immediate goals. Priorities such as family, work, or health, etc., are always more important than vehicles or other such items. Also; the true sign of wealth is not just money, cars, or jewelry, etc., but also having the time to enjoy those things.
In the interim; remember to keep focused, work hard, provide attention to the important things, and most of all "stay honest" to yourself and to your work. Short term get rich quick schemes are fleeting, and rarely produce good results. The only way you can "keep" and maintain a permanent life style is by living an honest one, and nothing worthwhile comes easy. Good luck with your future endeavours!

You are already on the right path, just by knowing what interests you. Do well in school, think about what you would like to do with your life, and set goals several years out. These goals may change from time to time, as others have said, and the biggest variable is whether and when you marry. If you are married by the age of 20, unless you are a human dynamo, chances are that the Ferrari dream will remain just that. Defer gratification when possible, keeping your eye on the longer-term picture. If you pursue success in work, one day the possibility of Ferrari ownership will appear. You will know when the time is right. I wish you great success, and the fulfillment of your Ferrari dreams. You have the tools to make it happen. Persevere, and you will reach your goal sooner than you now think possible! Fred

Bump! Thanks for all the kind answers, as said.

Should I buy my dreamcar (currently 458 Speciale), if I have a decent/normal job, and buy it on loan - or do I need to be rich? What do you work with? What have you done? As said earlier, please tell YOUR experience :) Thanks.

Edit: How much do you earn a year, and as said; what do you work with? Which job should I go for? I know, something I like - but it needs to be well payed.. Of course. Would be really, really happy if anyone of you answered my questions. Sorry for saying "as said" that much", but yeah :p I've said here that I would want to move to USA; and I have more reasons now when it comes to cars. Here in Norway we don't have a single Lamborghini or Ferrari store. In fact not even a racing-specialised racing car shop. So, I will never be able to do a test drive here. How is it in the US? Are there a lot of thives, is it possible to test drive cars even though your only a Ferrari fan, or do you have to be rich?
    Thanks.

And, groutguy, good luck with your 458 Speciale! I'm not that good at english; what does labourer mean? What do you do, and how much do you earn? I know that you might not want to answer these questions, and of course it's fine - but it would be interesting for a 12 year old (well, 13 5th December 2014).

What if I, in 10-15 years time look back at this post, and laugh about all my questions - while sitting in my new Ferrari or Lamborghini? That would be truly amazing. Haha! :)

Hard work and believing in yourself will get you a long ways . Finish school and work hard both in school and after school (when you graduate). With that you WILL achieve the goals that you want.
