I see no reason why they shouldn't earn what they do or why they don't earn their reported salary. They are the 22/18 best of the best (although it's debatable for some). Some have their own jets which don't come cheap. The appartments they buy in Monaco are very expensive (i.e. not what they can afford on a fraction of what they earn). Most reported salaries are correct within 15% I'd say; and that's excluding their bonusses....
They earn a lot for sure. But 50 million $ per season? I don´t think so. That´s a big chunk (1/4?, 1/5?) of the team budget. And you know that building those cars is not cheap.
+1 Just another 'probably' story. They have credibility, they're about the best there is IMO. But as we've seen over and over, until it's 'official', it's just more speculation. As the Viz has been saying for a while now, the fly in the ointment may well be the specter of 3 car teams...... We'll find out soon it seems, but I'll wait for something 'official' so as to avoid any crow later. Cheers, Ian
A lot of money but certainly not impossible. If memory serves, when Schumacher got that number the world was also in recession...granted, Tobacco sponsoring was still on but it still happened (50 mil then was also worth less than it is now). That was excluding bonus too and the money he made on the side by selling hats and doing the odd dandruff commercial. I assume a serious sponsor deal is happening too, or Honda is footing the bill for Alonso.
And Honda could cover that from the petty cash tin..... Some of it may be performance related, but that goes both ways; If they should do a winner next year, I suspect Fred could well make closer to double that #!.... As has been said many times, there's no lack of $ in F1, it just needs to distributed more 'fairly'... Cheers, Ian PS - Bas, are you really back in Holland now?
Yes I am Ian, got back here on weekend. Literally looking at the race track entrance right now. - Agree that Alonso's salary if Honda is footing the bill (they have confirmed they want a superstar driver, so won't surprise me if they cover the largest part of his salary in the very least) it comes from Honda's petty cash tin. Wonder when F1 will finally adapt my ideaof distributing monies .
Vettel announced publicly that he is going to Ferrari: SPEEDWEEK Formel 1 - Sebastian Vettel: Wechsel zu Ferrari bestätigt? He said about himself: "Sebastian Vettel is a Scuderia Ferrari driver." Of course some folks on here will not buy this either. But for the rest of us, this should not come as a surprise.
As soon as he wins...Until then you can be sure that Alonso would have always done better. If he is on the podium Alonso would have won, if he is last Alonso would been on the podium. If Raikkonen is doing better next year (and he can not do much worse) the "haters" will say "look, he is much closer to Vettel than he was ever to Alonso...". At the end it is all down to the car. I hope they give him enough time and do not judge after one year as I doubt that Ferrari will be on top next year.
Very true. Tough place to join in I guess; luckily both their drivers don't *really* care about what's said about them. Maybe. I don't think I would suddenly start liking Alonso or Hamilton if either of them won a title for Ferrari. Or 5 titles.
I believed something would happen a few months ago (with Alonso leaving, not Vettel this soon!), but never quite sure. When at Japan or thereabouts it was suddenly announced that Kvyat was going to Red Bull I was sold. Vettel to Ferrari, Alonso to Mclaren etc. I don't understand why people don't but it still, lol.
Back in September German newspapers urged Seb to leave RB and explained how he could easily get out of that contract. This made sense to me so when Horner spilled the beans I believed him immediately. Seb always wanted to drive for Ferrari and that means Alonso had to leave. My only question was Fred to McLaren or Lotus. By now we know the answer, despite some not believing anything
Regardless of the driver changes for next year, let's hope that the major teams catch up to Mercedes a bit and we have an epic year fighting for podiums from all these former World Champs (Alonso, Hamilton, Kimi, Button, Vettel) and young guns like Ricciardo and Bottas.
Lotus never made any sense to me though...Their recent history is a shambles and nothing less. Not paying drivers, suppliers, a **** car, internal fights and the team is massively in debt. All they need is Loldonados with 30 mil backing them IMO, they have no hope in hell to sign Alonso unless he's gone mental and offered them 30 mil so he can drive for them. Mclaren is the only one that made sense (short of Mercedes). He's not looking to retire just yet...
They should be able to get close to Merc power IMO..they can change the turbo similar to how Mercedes has it, which of course allows for less heat, better weight distribution, more power and better efficiency. If the Renault wasn't such a dreadful engine I actually think Merc wouldn't have had it so easy...they would've been champions in the end I think still, but they couldn't have had such a nice interteam battle, rather they'd be boxing with Red Bull HARD.
Not sure; 200m is a pretty big hole to fill up. The car is an unbelievable dog, the guys can't do anything with it, only COTA looked almost promising for them. That said it is F1 and anything can happen indeed...Lately looking at Brawn from that awful 2008 honda to a title, and Williams turning around from their dreadful season last year to where they are now. But even if Lotus had a merc engine this year they wouldn't suddenly be 3rd or 4th best team...they'd still struggle with points IMO.
Definitely. It would have almost certainly been Ricci VS Ham fighting for the title; I'm saying this because I think Ricci would've been then finished 2nd whereas Ros would be the one finishing the close 3rd, and vice versa here and there.
Yes I really think in a case like that, it would take Nico and Ham to be singing from the same page, and helping either one of them to clinch the WDC, of course in a case like that, you know only too well who I think that should/would be ...
