We English are good at forgiving our enemies; it releases us from the obligation of liking our friends ...I prefer that ;)

We have "gardez-moi de mes amis, mes ennemis je m'en charge" in french.
Which means "protect me from my friends, I will take care of my ennemies"; often used when discussing the world of relations between politicians...

Knowing you and your bias, you probably think Lewis is a better idiot than Nico!

Yes it is a similar analogy, however my interpretation is more of a persons ability to remain relatively alone, and aloof in their affairs. But thanxs interesting...

If mclaren are gonna be a contender next year then why did it
Take so long for fa to sign (assuming he has). Surely they would be showing him all
    They possibly can

Merc will further improve next year and will be untouchable. RB will be the only challenger a distant second again. Mclaren Williams and maybe even lotus will jump ferrari in the constructors as they languish near the bottom of the table

    Money ;)
Why??? Until he signed he is still driver of another team, why should Honda show a Ferrari driver "everything" until he has signed?
Especially when taking the history of McLaren and Alonso in terms of industrial espionage

Good point there. In my head I just see mclaren as really desperate for him. Maybe they aren't ;)

Then you only know half the story! - It's nowhere near the disaster of a car that some like to make it out to be!

I disagree. Mercedes got it 100% right this year, but i think other teams are going to figure it out. I dont think Williams is going to be as strong next year.

If Honda has their engine perfect, McLaren will be very strong. If they don't, then i see another year or Mercedes/Red Bull. Ferrari will be garbage again.

Nothing to do with it. It's all about a double-payday for Alonso. If he is terminated, Ferrari must pay him what is owed on his contract for next season. If he quits and signs with McLaren, they are off the hook.

It's all about determining who pulled the plug on the FA/Ferrari relationship.

I agree. This and the possible third car is wreaking havoc on drivers announcements.

Can Ferrari decide to keep him as "head of simulator development" or are they forced to let him drive if he is still employed by the team? If they have to pay him anyway at least it would keep him away from other teams and they wouldn't lose points to him.

The moment they announce Seb they have breached Alonso's contract.

The real question is whether Alonso gets to test the McLaren after the GP at Abu Dhabi or not. Ferrari can likely deny that till the end of the year

So they can't so "gardening leave" like they often do with top engineers? That's a shame.

The point of gardening leave is to let enough time pass so that the engineers knowledge advantage gets lost and all the new team gets is a decent engineer but no cutting edge ideas.

Drivers talent is somewhat timeless so no gardening leave necessary
