Thoughts Buying a CS Spec TCU from Eric355?

    Sounds like it would be a good idea to upgrade the transmission control unit on my 1999 360. Sounds like the optimum would be to buy a TCU from Eric355 in France that he has reflashed to the TCU on a Challenge Stradale 360. His price is 1,100 Euros. You folks seem to trust him.

    My mechanic, Dustin at Revolution Motor Sports in Agoura, CA, is skeptical. Has not seen good results with a reflashed TCU.

    Also, I understand it is OK to use the TCU from a Maserati because certain models have the same engine as the 360.

    Go or no go?

    Kevin- You have some misconceptions about engines and I doubt your mechanic has ever fitted one of Eric's reflashed ECUs to a 360. Somebody else's he no doubt tried, and no telling what was done to those TCUs.

    Bosch Motronic ECU injection/ignition hardware is used in a wide variety of cars, including Ferraris and Maseratis. Even though the engines in contemporary Maseratis and Ferraris are completely different, even if both are built by Ferrari, the hardware version of the Motronic ECUs is in some cases identical. I personally have purchased Maserati Motronic ECUs for Eric that were reflashed and are installed and running in very happy owners' 360s. The EEPROM software Eric uses came from a perfectly running CS, with PIS included. As far as I know, there have been no problems with any of the TCUs Eric has provided.

    Like Jimmie said, do a search and read some actual owners' comments.

    While my dealings with Eric were on another issue (he cloned the key fob for my 360), you can absolutely trust him. He was extremely easy to work with.

    Yes you can trust him. I had no problems. Alan had his done before me and was so impressed talked me into doing mine. Eric was on the up and up the whole way. Not only did he reflash it he also tested it. He gives you tracking info on shipping. He shipped mine to European Road and Racing in Charleston for me. It was a great transaction and he communicated with me throughout. The results of the TCU are incredible.

    I was impressed with his service and the unit came very well packed. Good guy to deal with. If you get one don't forget to give your installer the cheat sheet that someone here has made up -- attached.

    Kevin, I doubt your mechanic ever had in his hands a reflashed TCU. He may have not seen good results with remapped ECUs but that's a complete different thing.
    There is no mystery with those reflashed TCU : same hardware ( Ferrari or Maserati) + same software = same functionalities.
