Info I got from the dealer who bought it from the original owners family, Around $300K outside auction over the Pebble beach weekend. No info if resold since for more.

Wonder if Panos will up its top value estimate for a 79 930 from $205 + 15% for being one of the last 50, or Hagerty's at $140K in their price guides??

Is this Ed's '79 930 with the Dr. Fuhrmann Seats, the late '79 GR/Black Non-Sunroof 930, or some thing else? I'm thinking it is the late '79 GR Non-Sunroof car???

I'm fairly certain Ed is quietly holding on. His car has even lower mileage. I'm happy for him, he's got an awesome and very valuable 930.

Besides having the orthopedic seats in his 930, Ed also has an SC delivered with the same seats.

They were a $4K option in '79 (25% the cost of a new SC back then).

There is an excellent post on Pelican forum referencing the 4-spd vs. 5 spd 930 debate. It's on the 'Porsche Pano' discussion thread, recent post. It clearly exhibits why '78 and '79 ('75 - '82 results were amazing), era cars are significant. This was the PEAK of 930 derivitave cars flourishing at the top auto racing venues and the reason I started this thread on these first year 3.3 cars. It was also understood they were no longer offering them after '79 in the US. We all know how that turned out. Doesn't diminish the results of those '78 and '79 glory yrs.

i think the article was generally pretty good but he missed the chance to mention the significant win in 79 of a 935 first overall (maybe i missed it). not bad for a boulevard cruiser. the author (whom i met at a PCA national meting in Tampa) is versed with 930s (having owned at 79 if i recall) but i wonder who the other experts are he consulted (Sloan, Goldman maybe?)

That was not my car. It is sitting on its lift safe and sound has 39.5 miles now.and yes I do have a matching SC color and interior also I have a 78 with 45,000 so no more miles on the 79. The SV starts its long road back after I finish my 76 930 !
Not sure how far they go up in price but they are great driving cars compared to any others of the era.

That would be the Porsche Kremer that won that year. The Idea that some float that unless it was built at the Porsche factory even though using their engineering and parts with their knowledge and consent (and letting it be called a Porsche Kremer), not a real Porsche?
It was noted as a Porsche victory.
Most likely one reason Porsche bought the Andial of California brand. A quote from PCNA "Andial was always considered part of the Porsche family" for their success in NA and continue to build race cars with the Andial Porsche brand at the same factory in CA ( not in Stuttgart ). So not a real Porsche unless totally built in Stuttgart seems to be debatable. Many valuable and notable Ferrari's ( Vignale bodied etc ) were not entirely built at the Ferrari factory.

I will be viewing and maybe bidding on a 930 which is going to auction this weekend.

What do you all think of it? Does the car look correct to you? I like the fact that it is one of the last 50 US cars, I understand that prices are all over the place at the moment, but what would you bid? I'm not going to try to make a quick profit, but I would like to think that my investment was going to serve me well over the next 5 or 10 years. Any feedback will be greatly recieved!

Yes I remember this car for-sale in Los Angeles over EBay I think 4-5 years ago. The car had a roll cage and was a track car per the selling agent. I believe it's originally from Rusinak in Pasadena. FYI typical late '79 odo swap. Hope this helps..

1155 last sold on eBay on 9/7/2012 for $36,100. It had a full roll cage, non-original steering wheel and replacement 150 mph speedo (mileage listed was 43,689). 1155 probably has a 12/79 VIN decal and along with 1156 and 1157, were PTS and were delayed off the assembly line (may have been the last 3, 1979 930 Turbos to leave Stuttgart). 1155 was also a California ’79 930 and has the Cali decal in the engine lid and Cali decal in the rear driver’s quarter.

Are you in GB? Are you planning to bring this 930 back to the states?
While this 1979 1/2 930 has most of the 1980 changes a late build '79 930 should have, there are a couple things that are incorrect
    * The Head Lights and Trim Rings are incorrect - Easy to Moderate Fix.
    * The Raised Knob CR Radio is missing - Radio will likely be hard to find, need Amp and Electric Antenna - Moderate to Hard.
    * 85 MPH Speedometer was replaced with an incorrect 150 MPH Speedometer - Easy Fix, BUT mileage must be documented, if it cannot, be suspect.

Silver Spoked Fuchs are likely incorrect and dependent on what a CoA can tell you, the wheels may need refinishing along with the amber fog lenses.

All of the above can be addressed.

What Tony brings up about the car’s past configuration may present other challenges. Fortunately (Thanks, Rich!) some of the old #1155 pictures exist on RENNLIST under Tread #142.
What is 79 930 turbo signature addition? - Page 10 - Rennlist Discussion Forums
The pictures show numerous holes were drilled in the chassis. The rear deck speaker covers are deteriorated. Also, what happened to the dash plate? Photo or mechanical refurbishment?

Thanks for all the info, I guess the general consensus of opinion is that it is a nice car that has had some mods, but is a fairly easy car to get back to stock. It will be interesting to see the build date as it is a paint to sample car, maybe 12.79? Or am I just being a little to hopeful! Anyway I'll let you know how I get on, the auction is on Saturday.

I Remember this car too. It's from the Central coast California and it was advertised on either PCA.org or PML. The owner (I believe the second) was asking $129k about two years ago. The car was hand painted by a famous auto artist with red pinstripes. I personally think it looks horrible especially on the original light yellow paint. Top Gear seems to be sweeping up a lot of these early turbos and reselling them at a healthy premium.

I believe that is the correct speedo for an early '79. They changed somewhere in the 93098007xx range to the '85 mile speedo.

The Early '79 930 #0285 advertised at Top Gear has an incorrect 180 MPH Speedometer. The correct Speedometer for this car should be a 150 MPH Speedometer.
Yes, 85 MPH Speedometers were found on most of the later build 1979 1/2 930's, like the other US 1980 MY Porsches they were produced along side.
