Also add Blick to that group of news papers. They got a lot of the inside predictions/rumors right in the past.

It is rather bizarre and new to me as well: We have always had rumors/speculation threads in the past and people were happy to get an update from a source and would run with it. Remember the USF1 thread on here? Where the savvier amongst the FChatters figured out in the fall that the whole thing was nothing but a bluff by the liar Peter Windsor. We had people even driving up to that place and update on here with their own pictures. And the FChat community formed their own opinion against what the official lies from Speedvision were.

Here we have a bunch of information bits all pointing in the same direction AND reliable news sources telling us what the deal is, yet the FChat community doesn't believe a thing. This despite the fact that the reality isn't even far fetched at all but the most natural/logic next step.

    I don't get it.

As I said before, to me the only real open question is whether Alonso will be able to test the McLaren before the end of the year or not. I'm guessing Ferrari will prohibit it, we'll see.

While I certainly believe we'll see these predictions come true, the bottom line, right now, is that nothing is confirmed. Autosport, among other reputable sources, are always careful to point that out in their reports.

It's only here that some flaky report, often from the clowns at PF1 for example, all of a sudden becomes a 'fact', because some random, unknown, journo said so.

I'm actually really starting to hope that it doesn't come true, or one of them goes elsewhere, whatever, as there's not enough crow in the world to serve up!

Kind of like Toil has turned me off Hammy, through no fault of Hammy's, these claims that they're all 'done deals', when they're not makes me want things to change....

Do I think it's Fred to Maclaren & KI to Ferrari? Sure, I certainly wouldn't bet against it. But again, until it's confirmed, the smart journo's make sure to say so. It's the peanut gallery here that tends to ignore the facts. I'm not questioning Autsoport's authenticity, just noting what they're reporting as a legit news source.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Don't say that: With Seb in red, Fred in silver, Hami in white and Ricci in blue we have an ideal distribution of talent amongst the top cars. Much better spread than this year so hopefully the racing gets better as well. I hate it when the best guy sits in the best car, so dominating, predictable and boring.

    Fair enough.
What bothers me are comments like "this thread is nothing but BS". It isn't. We have actual bits of information. No confirmation, but that doesn't mean that the bits and pieces are BS. They are simply unconfirmed. Big difference from that to something that is plain wrong.

I think uncle Ron may not like 'silver', but I certainly hear you there. ;)

Hami in white? They're the silver team, surely? ;)

No matter the colors, I definitely agree a good distribution of the 'top talent' should be good.

Again, agreed. We've just got to be careful differentiating between 'rumors' (albeit solid and likely ones) and 'facts'......

    Cheers,
    Ian

I was cringing for a moment when I wrote that: I had flashbacks of Dennis Rodman in white...

I believe Massa has trouble with the similar but different colours in F1 as well! - You need to claim that the low lying sun combined with your computer being in a different position led to your confusion! :p

As for some of the arguments that have been made in this thread, it wasn't really being argued that this move wasn't going to happen, it was the fact that people were reporting that the move had been confirmed when there was no confirmation of anything (and there still isn't any confirmation!).

The point I (amongst others), was making is for people to be accurate with their posts and not to state that things have happened (the confirmation), when they haven't - It's called accurate reporting.

I realize the MBs are not white but to me a German team is white.

I guess as RB is blocking it with Sebastian, Ferrari will do exactly the same with Fernando...

Vettel to Ferrari is 99% sure (just because it hasn't made official). But I'd give Alonso to McLaren an 80%, due to no high-level internal leaks (like Horner) yet. For the last several years I've been following F1, any such rumor has rarely been wrong though. We should know by Abu Dhabi for sure.

White is Germany's color. Still today. Check out e.g. their primary World Cup soccer shirts.

Just as green is Britains (Caterham), red is Italy's (Ferrari), blue is France (Prosts).

Honestly I didn't see the point in that post. I googled Seaman and found him to a be a British racing driver for Mercedes. Just like Hami. Same difference.

    C'mon! - Think about it!

Dick Seaman! (think along the lines of a different spelling of the surname that sounds the same! ;) )

    I can't believe you're that innocent! :)

Ok, I get that, but I'm not sure that was the reference since we are talking here about an actual British driver for MB.

And no worries, innocence has left town many years ago ;)

    So one more try:
Yes, and Hamilton is Richard Seaman (although a little bit more successful) ...Without any insulting ;)

What is to disagree? You mentioned that a German Team is white and Mercedes was that officially in the times of the pre-war Silver Arrows. Seaman was the British driver in the team just as Hamilton is today...so no deaper meaning in that...
