The absolute worst component design..

Hopfully the guy that designed this garbage is living on an island by himself. I absolutely despise these things! Total junk.

I agree totally Dave but my stereo guys has no problem with them but myself whole nother story.

 

Yeah cheesy. It was easier to get at than my Miata.

 

I agree that cage is junk. Looking at it's design it seems to be more of a fireproof box that does a bad job of dissipating heat with a touch of stupid theft proof tabs. Some also have a bar for the back to keep them from being pulled out. mcGruber design.

That doesn't hold a candle to the Spider top.

 

Or those ridiculous triangle metal corner pieces on the interior door trim that cover the door mirror mounting nuts.

Their screws look awful without the plastic caps on...except they do not stay on without messy glue and after a few removals and put back ons they scrape the leather door trim making it look real bad....the bottom metal edge is thin and sits on the leather tight..it's bound to scrape...roughs the leather up bad especially lighter colours.

They should have been designed as an integral part of the door trim instead of being a seperate piece.

Hilarious! Is it really that bad? Just about everyone I've come into contact with has said that its not the best. What makes the top so bad?

 

It's not bad at all. It's just fchat hype.

My top works perfectly and exactly as designed. I haven't had an issue yet with it in almost two years and use it regularly. Don't believe all you hear on here!

Guys, this thread had nothing to do with the 355. It was a jab at the stupid radio cage used in all cars. Now it's turned into spider top problems

Let's just all bash the radio cage in good fun and leave the 355 out of this one

 

If there wasn't a radio cage what would they use though? PS I hate them too.

 

Dave, I might be willing to give you "second worst design", and it that may be why my radio guy (who worked on these when they were new) isn't very anxious to work on mine now.

 

Most issues are "user error"

 

I think my radio made my spider top stop working. Just kidding.I did however, just replace an old Alpine with a new JVC. Bluetooth is nice if you've ever tried to talk on the phone while you are in a 355 with custom exhaust it's basically pointless....nobody can hear anything. when it comes through the speakers and I have a microphone mounted its a nice thing

 

On a 348 or Mondial. For sure! LOL

 

Oh please! One more time. The 355 spider top works just fine and as designed. Do I really need to post the video of mine functioning 8 cycles in a row?

If you need another video with more cycles just ask.

If you don't own a 355 spider or never will for whatever reason , state your prejudice and stop the bashing.

Heck my previous 95 spyder top worked flawlessly also.
