it could be very nice when completed...which is precisely why, imho, he should wait to auction the car until AFTER it's completed.

I fail to understand the logic of this...unless the new buyer's cash is required to fund the service/repairs...because it will certainly take a lot of money to do what he describes.

Aside from his confusion of 23,877 miles vs. km (the speedo indicates miles) and whether the mileage is accurate anyway, someone thought that it was worth paying $30,210 for this car in 2001 when it had 12,295* miles and sold at the Kruse auction in Indiana. At that time it was described as "unrestored #3 condition".

*The picture with this ad shows that the speedometer is indicating mph but my data base from the 2001 entry indicates that the mileage then was described as "19,773 km", which converts into roughly 12,295 miles. I have no idea whether the 2001 description also mistook the odometer for km instead of miles. It is not really important, what is important is the current condition and that it is one of only about 50 400i 5 speeds known to be resident in the U.S.

Are those overstuffed looking seats really original?

I agree with the above post... Why try to auction this now in a partially disassembled state? It is unclear what the winner of the auction is really getting, but I wouldn't count on anything more than what is seen in the pictures (a partially dissembled car that may or may not move under it's own power).

A non-high dollar V-12 Ferrari that has been sitting for 10 years, what could possibly go wrong???

Sounds like a job for Mitchell Barnes!!!

    Regards,

    Art S.

PS. Ashman, it is probably a MPH overlay on a KM speedo, hence the odo in KM.

    See above, anything is possible.

For Matt, the seats look like the original configuration. Actually very comfortable for long drives and with decent bolsters for cornering.

    Good day Gentlemen,

Indeed, this looks to be the case here. In fact I noticed that the Speedo face does show "KM" under the odometer.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Currently bid to $55,100 and reserve not met. I know these cars are going up, but that is a bit surprising for a car that isn't together and hasn't run in years. If the bids are real, I am also surprised the reserve hasn't been met.

Very interesting sleuthing, Sam! So the vehicle has traveled roughly 3,622 km (2,264 miles) since 2001.

Well, that is certainly interesting! Where were those bidders 18 months ago when my 5 speed was for sale for barely more than half that bid?????? :(

    Good day John,

I am skeptical of the current bidder(s) and if they are legitimate...For example, why would someone repeatedly bid up an item when there are 6 days left until the auction ends? It just seems even stranger considering that the car is less than a prime example... no disrespect intended towards the car (it certainly looks solid enough), but it still has a number of needs that will require even more $$$ thrown at it.

    Cheers,

    Sam

I would agree, something very fishy about that bidding history and level.

What a hoax!!! $55k reserve not met? Is this guy kidding? The gauges are falling out, no ashtray, ancient tires, "original" seats? What is he on about? oh, and there's more money to spend? Any takers???

To paraphrase another post, "what could possibly go right?"

55k and the reserve isn't met? Interesting. Yes, I do believe that prices are way up on some cars but sorry I'm not buying this is legit.

I think the best part of the car is the added cigarette lighter for all your iPadz and iPhonez and stuff to access the interwebz.

IIRC, this car has been discussed here before and there is some sort of interesting/entertaining back story to it. Not the kind of story that adds value BTW, like it was celebrity owned or anything

hahaha...since when does celebrity ownership add value most of the time? There would only be a select few celebrities that would add value--most are like Jon Voight's Chrysler K-Car. haha...

I was trying to be PC and just relaying that I believe there is a back story on the seller, car or shop involved.
