I purchased a set of luggage when my car was new in 1989. The exterior leather has retained its good looks without any leather treatments but the interior surfaces have deteriorated and cover my clothes with an exfoliating crud resembling dandruff. Any comments on how to prevent further degradation of the lining? Thanks.

I have had the same problem. I took the luggage and used compressed air and blew the inside lining to get rid of the degraded lining . The air didn't cause any damage but it did blast off the degraded fiber. the end result looke OE and nothing was hurt no stiching, nothing. Just take your time and start at a low pressure and work up until you get the results you like

Unfortunately this is absolutely normal for all Schedoni sets manufactured in the eighties and nothing can prevent it from happening. I read once an interview from Simone Schedoni in which he explained that Ferrari asked them to provide a liner that should be easily washable, and to achieve this, a component made from natural rubber was incorporated in the material used for the liner (don't ask me how it was done, because I have no idea!). It is that component which dries and decomposes in zillion of flakes, and it happens to all liners from all sets from that period, sooner or later.

If you can, I believe your luggage would benefit from air circulation, possibly leave the pieces partially open.

Here is the email response from Schedoni

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Buongiorno from Modena.

Actually, the luggage sets of that period were lined with a washable material upon
    request of Ferrari S.p.A.

The surface of the lining had a natural rubber filling (lattice) with, by the time goes
    by, deteriorate.

Unfortunately, the only solution is to “brush” the part and take off all the lining.

To change the entire lining would mean to take apart all the luggage and the
    cost would be quite high.

If you have any further question, please do not hesitate to contact me and if you
will be planning a trip to Italia, please contact me to organize a Schedoni factory tour.

    Best Regards,

Mille grazi for all the comments. I will gently brush, use compressed air, and then vacuum, but perhaps not necessarily in that order.
