Did you have your car shipped? How did it go?

Take your time to find the shipper with the best track record. I went with the "get what you pay for option" and was very happy. He is not the cheapest but I would say the best. I was not interested in taking any chances or having the car moved in or out multiple times.

absolutely only enclosed!! I had mine shipped from Fl to CT, just under $1k. Great experience here, he arrived a day early (day before Christmas Eve!) and even showed me how to use the F1 shifter. I didn't see it myself first, had a buddy who worked in NASCAR go check it out...big car guy so I trusted his judgement, along with a PPI...

I used Passport for my GTB 2 weeks ago. Not in love with them at all. They fed me a bunch of BS and the driver came a day late which the only issue with that was I had to cancel plans. Really dirty truck too.

At the time, everyone was busy. I wanted to use Applewood - Bruce (owner) seems like a great guy and it's a smaller company that he owns. Algar uses them all the time with great sucess.

Exotic out of Orlando screwed me too - they told me they could do it then at the last minutes said "Oh, we can't help you"

 

I actually purchased my 348 Speciale in Florida and I live in Arizona. My suggestion would be this, make sure that your dealing with a company directly. As it turned out the company that I contracted with was actually a broker for many trucking outfits. So they took my contracted price and THEN went out to find a provider to pick up the car and bring it to Arizona. I was under the impression that they were the group and they were going to deliver for the said price. Just make sure that your not dealing with a broker. It took almost a month to get the car to me by the time that they found a driver to pick it up from where it was. I was livid that they lied to me about who they were.

 

My transporter took my call and I had the GTS in 7 days...

You do get what you pay for.

BUT, I was all set to take a road trip to bring it back like my yellow gtb. Road trips where possible are a great experience

I have had several shipped, no problems so far. I have used u-ship for most.

Post up a description of what you need and people can bid on the job. (and you can see their reviews before proceeding).

 

The dealer I bought from arranged the shipping. Enclosed trailer, independent. Never heard of them. Form CA to CT, no problems accept being anxious. Took about 2 weeks. Delivered on Memorial Day.

 

5x no issues........DAS or Intercity is who Ive used.
I also have a local guy thats 1/2 the price and does it because he enjoys it.

 

Oh yes.. once it got on the way everything was smooth sailing from there. It sat with my seller for 3 weeks (after the car was paid for on day one) and then it took about a week to get from FL to AZ. But once they got it on the way it was good. It was just the initial company that was a little dishonest about who they were and I had to cancel and get my $$ back from them and find another company.

 

U-ship was the jackamole group that screwed me over the first time. Once again, make sure that you hook up with an actual company, not a broker that will take your $$ and sub it out to whoever will take it.

 

How is U-ship a "jackamole group" that screwed you over? It allows companies to bid on your shipment, you have the choice as to who you choose (or don't choose).

 

The company that I chose represented themselves as "the guys" who own and manage the trucks and after payment they could pick it up in 3 days. As it turned out, they were subcontracting out the work to a 3rd party and it took 3 weeks to find a truck that had the requirements I contracted for. I was just irritated because they misrepresented themselves. So it probably wasn't U-Ships problem, it was that specific provider. But the whole experience made my blood boil!

 

Ah, I see. I have not run into that yet. Every one I ended up with off of U-ship was the actual person doing it.

One was moving my 57 Brougham from California to Illinois. Sitting for 20 years, 4 flat tires and most of the car in 100+ boxes. Arrived on time, not a single part missing.

I was really happy with that!

 

Don't use United - The driver was two days late. The car was in a covered trailer with 7 other cars. When the driver finally arrived and started opening the sides of the trailer (canvas sides), I noticed the car was filthy. He told me "THe car got a dousing, last night" I asked why my car sat in the rain. He told me that he had to move cars at some point andgot tired, so he left it out. Then the ****** put by baby under some PoS late 80s merc (that too sat in the rain) and the thing ended up leaking rust water and antifreeze on my spider top. I asked what he is going to do about it and the jerk handed me a bottle of McGuiars quick wax and dirty towel all the while telling me about how him and his wife have threesomes when they make it home. As everyone else stated, you get what you pay for.

Do use Intercity - WHen I had to move the car to my current location, I used Intercity and everything went perfect. They are vary careful and professional when getting the car on and off the trailer. THey also cover the car while in transit. I will only use them from now on.

Horsless Carriage from NM to OH. Smooth as butter and trums had a tracking device so i could track the car the entire way. Enclosed was $1,600. I wouldnt cheap out on shipping. Enclosed only.

Side note: My wifes Escalade was shipped by the dealer in DC to Oh.....took 3 weeks and two truck broke down twice causing the Escalade to be off loaded and moved to other trucks sctatching it. I was pissed and no one accepted blame. I made sure the Ferrari was not some fly by night operation.

 

I had a bad experience with roadrunner. I would not use a broker like them. Go direct to carrier like intercity or horseless carraige etc

 

I should mention that Intercitylines could not do mine but Jim was 100% upfront and tried to help me find someone.

 

I used a national and reputable carrier...ended up with a 2" gouge through my basecoat. I was told that this was a really rare event for them, but in the end it happened to me and at that point statistics go out the window. They paid to fix it and it was on the front bumper cover which is the most likely part of a car to get a respray, but I still haven't fully recovered from the emotional drama.

I've had better luck with independents...more personal pride and accountability, less cars on the trailer, and a better chance of going door to door direct without cross docking. My car was cross docked in Detroit so several people touched it...the guy who picked it up, the guy who unloaded/loaded it in Detrit, and the driver that drove the final leg of the journey to me. Of course the delivery driver said the damage was already there. Fortunately I had pics of the damage while the car was still on the trailer and hadn't yet been unloaded. My dealer worked with the owner of the transport company and in the end they covered it.

The defect schematic on the Bill of Lading is debatable as they mark up every little stone chip and in the end its hard to prove that what you're looking at is new damage. Moving forward I photo and video the perimeter of the car minutes before it gets loaded...then key is having someone you can count on at the other end to inspect the car before it's offloaded, and take pics while it is on the trailer if there is any damage (or reverse if the car is being sent to you).

 

i have not read this thread so pardon me if i am being redundant.

First, you absolutely want an enclosed carrier. it's no picnic being exposed to the elements especially without all that masking that you see on brand new cars being transported.

Second, in my business I have worked with many car carriers and car carrier companies and I have seen some crazy things;

I have seen drivers bring a loaded truck in for service that had to be left, and simply take a brand new, unregistered car off the truck and use that to drive himself home.

I have seen a guy looking for a way to cover up damage to an F430 that was done after he took it for a joy ride, blew a tire, which damaged the fiberglass fenders.

So, you definitely want a reputable company, not a broker, and not the cheapest price.

I have personally used InterCity Lines with good results. I am also very familiar with the operations of Horseless Carriage and Plycar Transport and would recommend them.

Granted accidents and mistakes happen to everyone, but they are in the business of moving exotics and they make an effort to minimize them.

 

You won't get a car moved open for under a $1,000. If you do it will take weeks before pick up.

For the people who use Uship, when you look at the companies profile it states how many trucks they own, and what type of operating authority they have. I.e broker or carrier. Brokers aren't any worse or better than a carrier. A good company is a good company. Just like a bad company is a bad company. Like when buying a Ferrari do your research.

 

Used Plycar from Chicago to Syracuse this past summer via an enclosed double deck trailer. Very professional service with the driver keeping me informed of anticipated delivery time starting the day before the scheduled date. Delivery was actually a little early without any issues. The cost was somewhat more than the cost you have heard for probably less than half the distance but I don't think $1000 is realistic either.

 

Mine was just shy of 400 miles and a non regular route. I paid $700 and Applewood (if they could have met my timeframe) would have cost $525
