Nov.22 (GMM) After just seven months in the job, Marco Mattiacci is set to lose his role as Ferrari team boss.

Germany's Sport Bild on Saturday cited 'well-informed sources' in claiming the 43-year-old Roman will be replaced by the Marlboro Europe brand manager Maurizio Arrivabene.

Mattiacci only took over from Stefano Domenicali in April of this year.

He said on Friday that what had struck him most about F1 since switching from heading Ferrari's North American road car arm was "the intensity, the complexity but also the incredible amount of talented people that are in formula one.

"How amazing is this sport, a global platform, the visibility that specifically in my case I don't like for myself, but which is a consequence of the job," Mattiacci added.

"The level of competition, (the) aggression is really high, so a lot to learn, but at the same time I think I brought an understanding of people, choosing the right people and from here how to create an organisation for the future."

Mattiacci has overseen the replacement of the departing Fernando Alonso with Sebastian Vettel, but according to Sport Bild the Italian will vacate his post next week.

"Supposedly," said correspondents Ralf Bach and Bianca Garloff, "Sergio Marchionne was not satisfied with the Roman's work."

Mattiacci's successor, Arrivabene, is no stranger to F1, overseeing Marlboro's sponsorship of the Maranello team and reportedly already close to Bernie Ecclestone.

 

Ross Brawn rumoured to go back to Ferrari as well.

I can't think of a more fitting name for a newcomer to F1.

Ferrari is falling apart, surely no one of significance in the racing world would step into this mess. So how long does someone who is VP of Global Sales for Phillip Morris stay in command of a team with plenty of issues? or is he replaced by the next in line sponsor salesman?

I'm getting to dislike this Marchionne guy more by the day;

Firstly, he ousts the guy who oversaw the most successful era in the company's history. Both road cars and racing.

Then he appoints a car salesman with zero experience to the TP role.

Then, if true, he gives him about 6 months in an inherited mess before firing him & appointing a cigarette salesman to the role....

Bild and not Autosport lol!!! When Mattiaci leaves and the tobacco farmer shows it might be worth worrying about. Until something happens who cares. What does matter is what Ferrari do technically to gain time/success on the track.

None of it matters at all. The issue is technical. Dalai Lama could be on the pitwall and it wouldnt matter until the car is better. Bild sourced data is always highly suspect. Brawn already sent a text to Brundle to say he wont be going to Ferrari. Now its a tobacco farmer/rep/exec whatever.

 

On that we agree. But as we've seen its tough for the tech guys to do their best job when mommy and daddy are fighting.
