It shouldn't howl but a flat crank has a distinctive sound, haven't heard one(Mustang) at full song to say one way or the other.
Here it is under load: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDCNfwrMW_U]2015 V8 Mustang GT350 SVT (and flat plane crank model?) on the Nurburgring - YouTube[/ame]
Rumor has it that it redlines at 8200 rpm. Report: Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang V-8 Revs Past 8000 RPM Car is going to be fantastic, particularly by year 2 or 3 when the little niggles are refined. I really like the new Vette but somehow think that this 5.2L flat plane screamer is the engine that the Vette should have. Nothing wrong with the OHV pushrod V8 that GM has perfected (it's light, compact etc), but the Ford engine is really nice - particularly so at the price point. Kinda wish they had kept the old school, cue ball shift knob that was in the GT500. Probably easy enough to change out I suppose.
Would be interested in knowing the cam specs, that allow a docile idle yet achieve a 8,200 rpm redline, Very Impressive!
I got a ride with a pro driver in a regular 425hp GT Mustang yesterday, lots of burning rubber and corner drifting. It was a beast and I was impressed. I can't wait to get close to a GT350.
If they keep it under $55K base, and $60K with a few options it will be a car to look at. Look at how well the Boss cars hold their value This one should hold its value pretty well.
There are a lot of technical issues that Ford must have dealt with to make the engine work. Flat crank engines are not normally that big as the harmonics become a major issue. Maybe active engine mounts and other solutions?
Engine height in the Vette. That Stang engine in the Vette would need a foot or more of additional hood height. Nice thing about the compact pushrod, great packaging and light. That said, that Stang motor would be amazing in a C7, maybe a mid engine Vette with a motor like that is hopefully in the works. That GT350 is going to be a sweet car, sure it will weigh 3800#, but a loaded up Vette is at 3500#, bet that Stang is going to scream.
Still sounds nascar. Not too different than z28 or vette. Will be awesome car regardless. Mt pcoty had mustang gt on podium so high hopes for this
I can't wait for all the aftermarket Titanium exhausts to come out, an exotic screamer is entirely possible!
Saw in person at the auto show today. Ford has finally created a nice interior for the mustang...only took 30 years.
I really like it. The exterior is just an evolution of the last couple generations but its done well and it feels more aggressive. To my eyes its the best looking Mustang since the 60s
