308 tool roll

Hi All does this look like a genuine tool roll? Not sure what the red handled tool next to the pliers is for? Thanks.

Looks like one, tools used can be Beta or have Ferrari script on them. The red handle tool could be a manual window winder.

 

yes, get if you can (or was it already part of your car ?)
it even has the rare spark plug tool that`s (very expensive) and is missing on almost all sets that come to market

It depends on what 308 you have? Is it an early car or later? This roll looks more like a 328 tool kit not a 308 one.

I think you're probably right but I have seen 308QV's with those pliers so maybe could be for a late 308 or 328? Mines an 81 GTSi so it probably wouldn't come with the same tool kit as the earlier carb cars? Manual window would be a good addition if one ever comes up on Ebay.

Definitely a factory issue kit. Looks like later issue than 308 or 328. Probably a factory replacement kit. Funny hex tool looks like it is for fuel injection mixture adjustment. Mixture tool is different than any I have seen from factory. Newer kits like this usually don't have the spark plug tool. Does the 14mm wrench have a box end? Assuming the male hex end of the spark plug wrench is 14mm, yes? What size is the female end of the spark plug tool?

 

Agree with this - it looks like what they were selling about ten years ago as the 308/328 etc kit 123254 but with the addition of the plug tool 114438 & the other thing

Stupid question. One of the first posters said the tools either can be "Beta" or "Ferrari" brand. I thought there was another one or two, like "Everest, made in India," etc. Am I mistaken? Thanks.

 

It seems very surprising that they would include a mixture-adjusting tool especially with USA cars. The mixture adjustment had a sealed plug on it and was not supposed to be adjusted.

I cant believe they intended owners to faff around with the mixture adjustment. This surely must be for some other purpose. The 328 kit never included this as far as I know.

 

As far as I know, that pocket in the tool roll is supposed to hold the manual door winder, for what it's worth.

 

Were talking about a factory issue replacement tool kit. It will cover multiple models for multiple regions. Ferrari has not been picky with these. Some even included mismatched screwdrivers and wrenches. The mixture wrench may have also been intended for later models - 355, 360 etc.

 

The emergency window crank was often included in the glove box rather than the tool kit.

 

Yes, Everest or Poly Tools brand provided in the kits issued with the 308. Later replacement kits included wrenches/screwdrivers with a "Ferrari" stencil.

There may have been exceptions to this rule given Ferrari's way of substituting vendors.

 

Yep, my thoughts also. Although those kits often did not include the sparkplug wrench and box end on the 14mm wrench.

 

I respectfully don't think so: the replacement generic tool roll that they sold about ten years ago had:
- screwdrivers with solid black (= not translucent) handles, not the deep red-brown translucent ones that this one has
- no spark plug tool, and this one has one;
- no 14 combination wrench, which "eyed" end was necessary for the spark plug tool. But agreed, we do not see here if there is actually a 14 combination wrench.

To me, taking into account the question of 14' the combination wrench, it is definitely a late QV or 328 tool roll; it would be easy to know if it is a QV tool roll, in which case the spark plus tool is for 14 mm plugs (21 mm dimension of the head of the spark plug cap) or a 328 one, in which case the spark plug tool is for 12 mm plugs (18 mm).

Note that if it should reveal itself to be a late QV tool roll, it should have the emergency windows crank.

And the red-handled tool, to me, does not correspond to any tool I know in these period tool rolls.

Here are new pictures providing almost all our answers, except for the strange red-handled tool.
- it has a 14mm combination wrench indeed
- spark plug tool seems to be the one for 12mm spark plugs.
So it is indeed an original 328 tool roll, complete, but with a strange red-handled tool added.

Bruno, mine looks exactly like this one you shared from eBay except I don't have the red handled tool next to the pliers on that pic.

 

This one came with my '85 GTB QV. Seems original. Missing one wrench (13).

The tool roll for my US-spec 1983 looks the identical except for the pliers. Mine have dipped plastic handles; not molded plastic.

So what is that tee-shaped tool in MarcH's tool roll? I thought it was a window cranker, but could it (also) be a mixture tool?

 

Surely way too thin to deal with the window mechanism?

 

I also don't know what it's for. The tool for the window seems to have another shape when you look at the picture in the manual.
