Quality shoes always age well if you look after them. How do you tend to your Lobb shoes?

Always use shoe trees to dry them out. Give adequate time for them to dry out before the next wearing. Personally, I store them with the trees in, but that's not necessary.

I use shoe cream (as opposed to wax) when polishing. Wax will dry the leather out over time. Although, the wax will produce a higher sheen.

A good cobbler is essential when it comes times to re-sole.

There are other basic rules, but these, IMO, are the keys to maintaining a good quality pair shoes. One of my favorite small pleasures was to go get a shine on 59th street. It was two blocks away from my office, and when I wanted 30 minutes to think...

Interesting thread, I've never heard of many of these shoe brands. I now know where to look next time I'm in the market, I just need to revisit this F-chat thread!

My favorite 2 pair are ferragamo. The quality and style and attention to detail are great. I have a lot of cole-haan. Good, but a step down from SF.

    +1 !

I've bought and used Allen Edmonds shoes for over a third of a century and find them as excellent as ready-made shoes can be. I also use Gokey (owned by and sold at Orvis stores) chukka boots, hand-crafted with the toughest imaginable 9 oz. Brazilian bull hide, and their boat shoes, made with 7 oz bull hide. Both Companies will relast their shoes to as close to like-new condition as imaginable.

Three years ago I also tried a pair of Mephisto walking shoes and love them, so incredibly comfortable that I bought a second pair in black.

I recently re-discovered a pair of Ferragamo sandals that I bought in 1999. After a little dust off, polish and buff they looked and felt brand new all over again. My wife even asked me if I had gotten the new shoes? When I reminded her that she was there she said, "OH!" Lol

Ferragamo are my favorite so far but to be fair I'll say I've not tried any other brands at a similar price point.

Bruno Magli loafers are pretty fantastic as well. Regardless of what I wear, I always seem to come back to Ferragamo…

Ferragamo. I have wide feet and 2E ferragamo work great for me and are the most comfortable shoes I have owned. I currently wear 3 pairs. I have found Gucci, LV and Dior to be too narrow at retail stores.

Hmm, I have narrow feet, maybe that's why I love wearing LV. Their loafers are narrow.

For narrow feet chatters I'm a big fan of the Moreschi shoe brand. All shoes hand made in Italy!

Anyone has experience from Loake shoes? Thinking of getting a pair of ankle high boots for the winter.

Cole haan is my favorite, but have to say the best looking shoes IMO are Scarpe Di Bianco's and Edward Greene.

Most of my shoes are Allen Edmonds. Classic looks, good quality, and American owned and made.
