I know now that 250GTO cars are $50,000,000 cars it is hard to remember when they were old obsolete beater cars. 250 GTO #3445GT had so many dents from racing that in 1965 Piero Drogo fashioned a new body for less money and in less time than Scaglietti could have made a new GTO body, the new design with a much wider front grill, sleeker fastback profile, Ferrari 250LM front windscreen, larger side vents and a rear hatch. The car retained its original headlamps and door panels. (see pictures in Drogo section of FC)
I looked at that website with SN but it only mentions Norinder bought it but doesn't say for how much he got it for in wrecked condition? Back in those days the bodywork by Drogo must have been under $20,000 especially since they were able to use some of the original panels. Probably by the time it got a 250GTO series I body again, bodywork prices had gone up a bunch

Norinder did not buy 3445GT in a wrecked state. He had the tired car rebodied by Drogo for road use after racing it.

There are many other mistakes in the OP too, too many to correct them all.

That car was already a year or two old by the'64 targa and I'm sure well used at that point, you sure the nose hadn't already been repaired at that point?

By my count, that was it's 12th race with at least 2 recorded accidents prior.

As I suspected, in the'62 lemans race where it wore number 58,it had a similar style nose you see on the restored car. The '64 targa nose was different. The only difference to the lemans version is the blinker location.

Restored as "factory 8 may 1962", but the owners prefer the "Norinder livery".
    All the best, Miki-Paki.

I've only seen the Nordinger body in pictures but like it quite a bit. I wish they'd left it.

I still think not showing the amount of crash damage to the world was a mistake that may affect the value of this car in the future. The owner decided to save a cake that is growing mold by now.

+1! What do we have now? All replaced? Why should this be more correct than the old form and material before? One thing is sure: the new body destroyed history. And yes, I believe that the old material could have been repaired and preserved. And although even this was a replacement, it contained an essential part of the car's history over last 25 years.

The conserve/preserve movement has more work to do.

Why is the new nose better? May be more symmetrical but also historically more correct? What about the air intake openings? Which configuration is "imitated" today?

Is this really a criteria with a car of this calibre?

    ?

The more important the car the more important it is to maintain as much history and original fabric as possible.

The nose had already been replaced three or four times, it's back to as delivered and can be reworked again and again. This obsession with 'unrestored' vehicles is getting way out of hand when people want a car that's been rebodied at least twice to be 'unrestored.' The cherry was popped on that one long ago.

Fantastic colour scheme, though in a way its a pity it doesn't still wear its Drogo body because based on pictures, the styling was dramatic to say the least.

Does the colour scheme match the nose configuration?

What would be the point here? Restoration is supposed to reflect the past, not to fake it.

How much of the body was original before it was handed over to Classiche?

Upon my humble understanding the new front/colour combination never existed in period and does not reflect a historic configuration or the past. But if you support the car's history as an unbroken chain that has to be continued, the damaged body's material and its last shape and colour should have been restored and as less as possible of the material replaced.

I have a photo of the car wearing the drogo body. Does anyone know which chassis that one is?
