Yes, thanks Dave. I realised that as soon as I posted (hence deleting the post).

But you were too quick on the draw! :)

But I still think his stereo must have been installed at a later time.

I don't believe the picture unless there is some salt and pepper with that hat.

These days all of the salt and pepper is under the hat.
    Actually, more salt than pepper.

Or, now that I think of it, more air than either salt or pepper....

There's not much grass left on the pitch, you might say... :(

    Luke, you are 100% correct.

The 95 gets intake air from the rear window duct.

The 98 allows air into the motor from the rear window duct

(Guys, be careful washing the 95's - even though there is a water drain, you are likely to get water into the intake- I'd stuff that duct with something while washing)

    Dave,

That's where my insurance and registration goes since the '95's have no glove box.

I think it's for sun glasses - just to the right is a place to slide cards in and that is also on the 98

    Supports 55.25 HP/cyl x 8 = 442 HP @ .45 BSFC 95% max duty cycle

    '96 M5.2 Bosch fuel injector # 0280150449 Purple top
    Flow 241cc/min. @ 3 BAR (43.5psi)
    Supports 48 HP/cyl x 8 = 384 HP @ .45 BSFC 95% max duty cycle

Therefore '95's with Motronic M2.7 perform best with no cats, non-catylized cam timing and your choice of aftermarket muffler.

Interesting that the 2.7 cars have a larger injector. Not to say that it's actually using more fuel/making more power than a 5.2 car but it would seem to have a slight advantage with the twin inductions. Looks better at least! :)

What is non-catalized cam timing? Challenge spec?

Edit- Thinking more on the 2.7 vs 5.2, it would be interesting to data log both and see if there are any differences in high rpm map kpa. (To see if a 5.2 car does taper off from restriction of the single maf or it's still more than enough with no measurable restriction).

This thread was always going to head down this path.

Surely the only real measure of power is the dyno?

By any reference that I can find of real power on a dyno (including Bradan on this site and my own 25year Ferrari mechanic) there has never been noted a significant difference in power either way from '95 -'99 Ferrari 355s.

Note: "my mate said this or that" is not evidence.

For the life of me I can't understand why the '95 guys continue to pretend anything different.
Maybe they were duped during the buying process and now feel they have to continue the bollocks?

    Who cares, really?

According to Ferrari all versions of 355 produced the same power.
And if there is actually any difference (which I doubt) it would be more than compensated for by a less than full fuel tank, or a less than fat bastard driver.

Maybe, if it really matters to you, instead of hunting for a '95 cause it's "faster", you could forgo that double cheeseburger?

Well it was merely a technical discussion until you got all emotional about it so I guess you?

I was specifically looking for a 95 because I like the symmetrical look of the engine compartment and the simplicity of obd1.

If there is slightly more power great but I do doubt it would be a great difference if any.

Doesn't mean it can't be discussed and a diet isn't going to help me at 165lbs.

On the contrary. I'm not emotional about it at all.

    I'm actually interested in facts.

Sadly, facts are very thin on the ground on this website when it comes to the myth of the '95.

Steve, just curious about the lack of facts being presented with regards to the 95?

The poster shineKen stated in an earlier post that '95's had 10 more hp...

I don't buy the HP claim and it wouldn't matter anyway.

I do buy the lack of alarm fobs and old fashioned use of the key with OBD1. That alone was the price of entry... :) only real important difference to me.

If you come from a 308 or 328 or 348 or older, that will likely matter to you.

If you have only owned 550's or newer or other marque's, it won't matter.

I have read in different articles that the 95 was rated at 380hp. Later models at 375hp.
Again, and I am stating that I do not know if this is true, it is insignificant and would not be noticed. If people are worried about hp, they should be looking at a lot of other cars out there.
