The question was recently asked, how many are in the USA? I still don't have the definitive answer to that, but, in the book PORSCHE UNEXPECTED, Bob Ingram says he ordered his example as a new car, then worked with JK Technologies to get the car EPA/DOT compliant for the USA in order to import it. As a result, he says its the only one in the USA that's road-legal. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Great piece on the technical specification of the 3.8 RS: 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS | car review @ Top Speed Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is quite a strong connection between the RSR and the GT3 RS, but even more so the GT3 RS and the GT3 Cup, Porsche' one make race car that has also seen use in all sorts of road racing and rally series. Big difference is the sequential box, and the elimination of all those unnecessary luxuries. AutoExpress review of a 2011 GT3 Cup car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmKdavfj_P0 and Tiff Needel comparing the 997.1 GT3 RS with a contemporary GT3 Cup. Love when Tiff calls the GT3 RS a wallowy old barge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjbSlqSx26Y What I love with the Cup car is how much cheaper it is to buy (maintenance is another issue). A decent 997.1 Cup car hovers around $80k, while a .1 RS is quite a bit more, and a 3.8 more still. I've been looking at a 3.8 RS and the bank account simultaneously quite a bit lately (thanks Joe), but I can't justify the money at the moment. A Cup car looks awfully tempting, even though I'll have to tow it and only use it on the track. So don't tell people what a good deal a Cup car looks at the moment, ok?
Very cool & thanks for sharing. Well, a used Cup car is cheaper for a basic reason: you can only use it on the track. Think of all the street & road use that it cannot be used for. Incidentally, the same team that builds the RS cars build the Cup & RSR cars at Weissach, so the Motorsports linkage is direct. So my sage advice would be: sell everything, buy a Cup car for the track and an RS for the road and live life happily ever after! IMHO, the GT3 RS series will become Porsche Ag's most enduring sports car legacy of all, in years to come. I also think when Cup cars become eligible for vintage racing they will become terribly expensive giant-killers. Says my crystal ball which just returned from a full concours restoration! And whilst we are extolling the virtues of the RS and Motorsports link, here is a Rennsport track car for your kind consideration... Off-roading? The 911s first international level competitive outing was in 1965 when it won the snow covered Monterey Carlo Rally, so the 911 knows a bit about off-roading... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

I know there are a lot of posts, but we have been following the 3.8 RS and 4.0 RS Rally cars with noted interest in the thread. Lots of proper off-roading with the Championship-winning GT3 RS. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143513458-post2341.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143514483-post2349.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143541616-post2437.html
