Anyone who thinks the 05-06 will go down is dreaming
There were just over 4,000 GTs built in 05-06. Over half have been wrecked. Prices won't be going down no matter whether Ford builds a new one or not. At this point there is no real word on a new car for 15. We would already see prototypes being tested.
Must be an epidemic of poorly constructed garages, because driving them surely was not the causation of their collective demise. "Wrecked" is a rather vague & ambiguous word. Does a parking lot fender bender qualify as "Wrecked"?! Being that Ford GTs have a lofty value, even the "Wrecked" one's are fixed, thus the reason for a certain number being sold with salvaged titles.
You are absolutely correct in regards to still recording miles on the odometer. I was thinking more along the lines of owners paranoid/overly cautious of driving on public streets.
Oh believe me its coming. Concept will be unveiled in early 2015 (possibly detroit autoshow) wight he production version following in 2016
Is there any reason to believe that a new version would hold its value or even increase like the previous versions? If they are snapped up at inflated prices relative to even a high msrp would it be worth it in your opinion? We obviously do not know what will happen but that's why it is called speculation.
No last time they made 4300 cars in 2005/2006. This go around is for homologation so that they can enter the 50th anniversary of the LeMans races that ran Ferrari out of town. Unveiling is to occur at the Detroit car show next month. 500 cars are whTs rumored as planned total so the prices will be stratospheric as you can imagine. Value effect on present GT? None.
They are not all garage queens. Mine has 4,400 miles on it. There are quite a few that have high miles. As to the wrecked you would be amazed how many have been totaled. If you are in the market for a GT go to the GT forum and contact the GTGuys. They are the top service people for the cars and they can fill you in on damaged and wrecked cars. Salvage title cars are going for around $200. A local car that was totaled sold for $189 a year ago. No worries on the prices going down because of a new model. As to the new car I said no car in 15. We will see what's up at the Detroit Auto Show.
your are not thinking out of the box shame on you. I will drive it 3 miles in reverse and the car will be a 0 miles. I'll sell it to you for 3 times the ask. that is how it is done! Lol..
You should conduct an experiment. Call the guy in AK since he's ready to pay cash and get an offer on your 12k mike car. Let us know if it's anywhere near $250K. It won't be. So what is the real value of these cars? Is it what some boozed out bidder at BJ paid for a wrapper Heritage or is it what SS will pay you right now for your 12k mile car? You homers know the answer to that question. Regardless of a new FGT, the bottom is not falling out on low low mile cars in any livery. I don't think drivers will bring big bucks now to begin with and I would guess the more you drive it the less it will be bring down to some threshold that any GT in decent shape will never go below. Its under $200k. The assertion that the new FGT will be limited to 500 cars, I find unlikely. The assertion it will be $500k+, I find utterly ridiculous. I guess we'll all know soon enough. I think people are coming up with these theories because it supports the bubble market right now with the FGT. I mean if a new FGT replacement came out that was $200k, that would put a lot of pressure on non wrapper driver prices and would drive them down substantially.
I would agree that if at the time of initial release, the Ford GT represented the highest priced Ford ever at approximately $120,000.00, I seriously doubt various speculations that a new Ford Super "Exotic' would be roughly 4Xs the initial release price of a Ford GT ( $500,000.00). The cost to create a New "Super Car" & limit the production run at 500, seems financially a losing proposition, even at $500,00.00, also taking into account the mandated law to have a certain amount of replacement parts to support those 500 cars for a certain amount of years.
If you believe there is a segment out there that will spend the same money on a Ford that they are willing to spend on a P1 or a 918 or a La Fcar then hey, bring it to market Ford. Given the money drunk people are spending in wrapper FGTs, anything is possible. While Nigel in Monoco is parking his P1 for the evening, Bubba in Oklahoma will be pulling his million dollar Ford hyper car out of the garage and heading down to the Golden Corral for the early special.
Does Golden Corral offer valet parking?! Bubba's gonna have to loosen the seat belt after hitting the "All you can eat shrimp" buffet 3Xs!
My friends and I drive our GTs in Oklahoma but we don't go to Golden Corral and no one is named Bubba. Just for the record we are all in great shape. Its the Fcar guys that have problems with the seat belts. Oh wait, we have Fcars also so maybe its the Lambo guys with the seat belt problems. Go figure.
A true expert has spoken. Yes that's you "Luke" lol. Give me a break bud... Just got offered (unsolicited) 285 k for my 5,000 mile car yesterday. Reality, meet Luke. (Who apparently doesn't have the financial means of Bubba to afford a FGT). BTW the rumor is the new FGT is being produced in the low 500 number because of homologization rules for LeMans which Ford intends to enter in 2016 as a 50th anniversary, not going to be a mass produced car, got it? As to Fords bringing stratospheric money have you seen what a Mark IV 66 Ford GT recently sold for? 11 million. Another bit of reality to chew on.
No dog in this fight, that being stated, the GT40 you alluded to incorrectly as being a Mark VI 66 Ford GT had both racing & celebrity provenance & the lowest build number (6). It's price being more of an anomaly than a standard representation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_GT40 1968 Ford GT40 Gulf/Mirage sets auction record at $11 million - Autoblog
I agree. I was just pointing out that a livery does not equate to a price point. It seems hilarious to me that no one brings up the fact that a 2 million dollar Bugatti is in reality a Volkswagen as far as parent ownership. But then again I never was one to own Ferrari underwear lol.
Why do FGT owners get so upset when discussing the market? My name is Luke not Bud. The only GT40 I'm aware of that sold for 11 million was P1074 which was a 1968 Mk I. Maybe there was a more recent sale. Which Mk IV are you referring to? I am fairly certain the Mk IV's were produced in 1967.
Actually, I did own one. I was offered(unsolicited) $145 which I took at the time not knowing just how overinflated the market was going to become. I don't know if that makes me a fool or just a realist? Too bad I don't still have to because if someone offered me $285, I would be jumping all over that! My suggestion would be not to wait too long if you are truly receiving offers like that. Don't want to be left holding the bag so to speak.
I believe dmark1 ( Mark) was referring to the GT40 described in the link I provided. http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/20/ford-gt40-sells-for-a-record-11-million-at-pebble-beach/?_r=0 Mark IVs were built in 1966, & raced in 1967. The Mk. IV ran in only two races, the 1967 12 Hours of Sebring and the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans and won both events.
