I fight this all the time. I have a Jag E-Type I purchased about 10 years ago for peanuts. It's a driver, but I'm ahead of the game. About 2 years ago, I added a 308.

Neither of the cars were purchased as investments (although I was aware that possibility was there simply based on history and my desirability), but I now wonder if I sell, could I get something to replace?

It's that unknown that keeps me driving them - until I can come up with a better plan, I'm going to enjoy the cars.

no way would I drive less only because the value of the car increases !

the "value" is far beyond monetary aspects and the wording "you only live twice" is not even valid for James Bond ;)

Yep, I'm in the enjoyment camp too. The BBi was an awesome car, but it got to where I just never drove it. Drove the 512TR a bit more, but not much. Now those have become the 328, R8, and 911 3.2 which I'm driving way- way - more.

Now, if my Etype is ever finished (!) I'll use it sparingly, but with less concern over breaking an unobtainable bit.

Surely those aren't everyone's choices, but they suit my mission to enjoy and drive them. If any appreciate that's a bonus.

I would say that asking prices went up 30-40% in six months.

Average prices were in the 40-60 k euro six months ago and now they are in the 60 - 80 k range.

    Not bad.

The car discussed here is not in her factory colors anymore: it is 65539, which left the factory in "Blu medio Met" outside, "Blu" inside. This combo is therefore not OEM.

See my post # 110: it is not factory option. The car is chassis 65539 and left the factory painted in "Blu Medio Met" outside, with "Blu" leather. She is not in her original color or leather anymore.

If not, it's even better. That car is top level: let's see what will happen.

It was a few weeks no more 328 were for sale in CH (using autoscout24.ch as a reference).
A few days ago a 328 showed up and guess what....it's up for grabs at CHF 89000.
The car is an '87 with 46600 KMs.

That would be "about 74.500 euros" if I'm not "lost in conversions", right? Seems reasonable to me for a decent car.
Right now there are so few 328 for open sale in France that you could not speak of a "market" at all, I mean: less than ten cars doesn't make a market.
My guess is still that the best cars are traded and sold outside the adds circuits.

Well Andy, I do hope that this fever will not reach us "continentals" to soon...
On your link I see some asked prices at £ 125.000, which is about 150.000 euros; the highest I have seen in France so far is 100.000 euros (if we except the occasional "time capsule" with only the 100 miles / 160 kms as "delivery miles") and none of these 100.000 euros cars have sold so far. But, as I wrote above, there is actually no real "market" in that sense of the word for 328 here these days, because four or five cars for sale do not make a "market".

    Rgds
