Was wondering at what remaining % you f1 guys replaced your clutch? Also, this may seem an odd question, but does clutch wear occur linearly assuming consistent driving style? Or, does wear occur faster once it gets past a certain point?

    Thanks.

What I have heard is that clutch needs to be replaced when it slips into neutral several times.

Also heard that clutch wear is pretty linear but depends on usage.
Also pis is tuned every maintenance cycle.

Wear rate increases once the plate wears over 50%, or once the springs on the clutch cover become weaker with age. Drive it until it stops working, the flywheel will need refacing or replacing anyway...

Eddie- Does it help stretch clutch life if PIS is adjusted late in a clutch's life? Is there also a clutch plate thickness setting, too?

Sure does Taz, should be checked/adjusted as part of an annual. If your a DIY'er it's worth having it set-up after you complete your yearly service. Clutch thickness is adjustable, it's a setting used to manipulate clutch operation, particularly on the non-pis adjust TCU. It has the downside of making the clutch wear % alter, and is one of the reason you shouldn't rely on the TCU % readout for an accurate gauge of clutch wear. The wear figure is just an extrapolated figure, massively impacted by altering clutch thickness and PIS.

Thanks. What does it typically cost to do the replacement?. I am looking at a car that has 42% left and am wondering what I am in store for. Car is a 2005 with 9k miles.

Mine just slipped in first..no falling out of gear etc! lasted 32,000 km ... Hard to say what the %tage was as they can be adjusted to give more life. Did clutch and flywheel which came in at $8k AUS, but got this under warranty as the car was under warranty. Plate was very worn and not far off rivets.

Same clutch. Probably cheaper for labour though without the F1 setup.
