    Hi Everyone.

I'm an enthusiast with a couple F cars and would like to add a 355 to my stable. I'd like to source a car from a fellow enthusiast if possible.

Specifically, I'm open to any Berlinetta or GTS that is in pristine condition with less than 20,000 miles. My ideal colors would be silver, grey, red, and some blues. I'd rather stay away from yellow or black cars (no offense, just personal prefference.)

If you have a car we can discuss, please PM me.

    Thanks,

    Skipp

You and the while world want this spec. Dave R zinged me for overpaying..but it's sitting in my garage (low mileage 98 manual trans red /tan coupe) and I couldn't possibly be happier. My car has > $100K in maintenance receipts for four major majors (the last major on my car was $30K) and I feel like I got the best deal of all...the exact spec I wanted with just the cost of insurance and fuel and zero issues since purchase. Setting aside dollars for the next major in a couple of years. Find a car with great maintenance history...close the deal, and you'll never have a single regret.

    Wait...$100k ?!

In other words, it had 3 majors totaling $70k yet still needed an additional $30k worth of work at it's 4th major?

That sort of turns on it's head the notion I had that one could buy a well sorted (to the tune of $70k worth of work) car and not worry all too much about pouring more into it after. Brave man!

I should not have quoted that number as I didn't mean to imply that it takes these kind of service dollars for the car to be good (and my '>' should have been '<' as the total tally is in the low $90's).

The majors were all done at Ferrrari dealers...quality work, but amazingly expensive when I look at the records. The last major included complete replacement of the exhaust system (Fabspeed headers, Fabspeed hiflo cats, and Capristo exhaust)...that was 1/2 the cost of the major as the parts were expensive and there was a ton of labor to put it in. The exhaust work wasn't a must do as the stock headers were still fine...it was just something the prior owner elected to do.

Anyways...the point is to get a well serviced car, and I plan on surely finding a less expensive path moving forward than what the prior owners of my car took in the past.

There are quite a few pristine F355's out there with more than 20,000 miles.

Setting aside the exhaust work...the majors averaged about $15K each and were over the top in terms of things that were done. Then add in the exhaust work. Then add in all of the stuff that happens in between majors that the prior owners had done at F car dealers...tires, fluid changes, new batteries, paint correction, detailing, brakes, etc, etc. The prior owners also took it do the F car dealer every year for a formal annual service which typically totaled up to $800-1,000 each time.

I've owned the car for 2 years....I do the minor stuff myself and have had no other issues, except for replacing the CV boots recently.

I've been also looking for one. Just about every 355 for sale is a convertible. So annoying.

    Mike,

Thinks for your input. I have a 360 CS with paddles that I love. I've never driven a 355 F1, I just figured the system would be sluggish, being the first evolution of the F1. Am I wrong about that ?

    Hey

I did see the eBay car. Someone here said it was kind of rough in another thread. I'm looking for a concourse quality car. Not 100 pts., but definitely a contender.

Thanks for all the input. Keep the leads coming.

I have a 360 pump update on my 355 that i did and mine shifts just fine and fast when i want it to.I cant speak for a 360 CS because i have never driven one and thats a whole different animal. But i dont see any differance in shifting with a STOCK 360 i've driven many. so i dont know were all this sluggish shifting on the 355 comes from..I just think that some cars are just not set up right.

I agree totally. Had my car at cnc motors and the guy there told me my f1 shifts nicer and faster that the 360 f1 they had there. Just tells me theirs is not setup right. Mine still has the original pump.

I think I just have it in my head that the 1st year of any technology is a work in progress. As I said, I have no experience with the 355 F1. If you say it's the same as a standard 360, that would be fine with me. Incidentally, we have a good group of Ferraris in Charlotte, but there don't seem to be any 355s. So, no opportunity locally to drive any.

Thanks for the input. Please keep the leads and PMs comming. I'd like to find a nice car

If I were in the market, i'd buy this car and sort out the "imperfections".... Just like any other 355.

All the 355 hardtops are getting eatin up. You probably have a better chance finding a Challenge Stradale and that is saying alot.

    I agree 100%
I bet a little leatherique would make those seats look brand new.
This looks like a really good car other than the seats and the passenger airbag cover.....all inexpensive fixes.

All I can say is Im glad I have my 355Berlinetta :)

The red car on ebay has engine compression questions. There was a long thread about a member going to purchase the car but decided to pass after the leak down / compression numbers were off.

So maybe more than some cosmetic needs. But check it out.
