Was the headliner and fabric around the rear glass always the grey type check? Mine is a beige colour that really lightens the cabin but I don't think it's original. The inside of the targa top is also covered in the same fabric.

Many- including my 328- were done in the beige fabric. I got rid of it on the interior, around the rear window- and redid it in black vinyl, having a soft leather texture to match the original vinyl on the dash. So far I haven't redone the targa headliner, though I have enough black vinyl to do it too. I don't use the targa top much, tho. Vinyl is a lot easier to keep clean!

    Cheers,
    Rich

Graham, the tan interiors got the tan/white material. Black interiors got black/white. Red got red/white.

As far as I know all GT/4s came with leather.

What do you mean, "shame"??? The original dashboard is in black leather-textured vinyl, and I only matched that color and pattern. Leather must be made very thin to go around corners, which is a real PITA. Vinyl is easy. Anyway it's around the rear window area (8 separate pieces total) and looks a LOT better than the old textured beige cloth. While I was at it, as I'm 6'-4+" the stupid center stop light sticks (or stuck) down into my very limited vision of what's behind me, so I made a completely new, and much, much slimmer rear center stop light "holder" using teeny but very bright LED's, which now barely protrude into my rearward vision. But more about that later.

There were so many options as to colors & materials that were on offer for these cars you cannot really say "that ain't right" across the board, if the specific choice of a particular owner isn't the one you would have made. Anyway nothing wrong with "basic black". IMO.

    Cheers,
    Rich

Wasn't there two tan/white materials? I've seen both a lighter tan and a darker tan. Mine had the lighter tan but I could only find the darker tan wool as a replacement material. I bought enough for the entire interior but I have been hesitant to start the project and my headliner is in great shape but once I start with the darker tan in the rea I will have to change it out all around.

Unless someone has the lighter tan and wants to trade...?
