Cool that you are taking care of one of the last beauty to leave Maranello, never seen a 308 engine painted silver before... Is it from the factory or something thats done in the later years?

Is painting the engine a common thing at engine out maintenance time? It looks nice, but was there something wrong with the aluminum that it could not be cleaned and led you to painting? Both options seem good, but I was wondering the thought process as I will have to decide at some point.

    Ciao!

Classiche sometimes does it, when the heads are very dirty and you cannot clean it anymore. In my particular case the heads were polished by the former owner so that was the only way.

    ciao

noise of the 308 carbed is fantastic imo ...one of best V8 period sound
i have to say jalpa sounds a bit better but the 308 GTB is a better car overall

I am surprised that dry ice blasting has not become the way that EVERYONE cleans aluminum... Expensive?...yes. Worth it? ABSOLUTELY. Parts emerge from dry ice blast looking NEW. Not pitted or overly polished like other blast media. The parts just look fresh and original.

Beauty, congrats! The replating work on the carbs looks great and gives it a nice finished look. Well done!

Thank you very much, Micheal: that's very interesting, but i do not even know if there is someone here in Italy that can do it. In any case, i like the actual engine look and that's enough.

    ciao

Just caught this thread. How excited you must be seeing the car come back together. Jewelry under the lid looks great! Curious how many miles on this car?

the car starts improving: the engine bay and mechanic is now ok, the interiors are almost completed, next year (next week...) the electric plant, then the instrument nacelle and the bodyshop with a new deep front spoiler.

For the moment I want to keep the passing lights and the 328 mirrors: they are practical and useful.

Pictures are fresh, taken less than three hours ago in via Abetone Inferiore, Maranello, just on the opposite side of the street where the Ferrari factory is.
