308 one mirror vs two

I have an 81 308 GTB with only one mirror. It was standard.

 

I also have an 82 GTSI and it has only one mirror on the driver side. I have an extra factory electric mirror for the passenger side that I would be willing to sell if anyone's interested.

 

my 77 308 has one

 

IMO the side & rearward vision- meaning lack thereof- practically cries out for a passenger side mirror. That tends to give one a semi-fighting chance of seeing what's behind, coming up, or alongside.

My '82 has 1 mirror.

 

80-82 us cars have one mirror from the factory.

If they have two, either a dealer put it on or a previous owner did.

Either way, "correct" is one mirror for the 80-82 cars.

Not to be argumentative but my old 82 had two electrically operated mirrors from the factory. Controlled by the single round switch under the drivers arm rest.

 

Unless an original owner can verify the vehicle came with two side mirrors, and it was not a dealer installed item, or a fiat switch, as far as I have read, there is no evidence of two mirrors from the factory. I have seen an electric passenger side mirror from UK (from lhd) hooked to an aftermarket switch. Not doubting you have two mirrors just not

Mine was a U.S. Version.

 

my fault for not being clearer.....the right electric side mirror was from a RHD UK vehicle and installed on the right side of the LHD US vehicle, with a Fiat switch to toggle between the two mirrors, so it all looked original.

 

How are you certain the dealer didn't fit it before it was sold?

We have found this to be the case with factory single mirror cars going back to at least 77.

 

There was a boxed offside mirror in the trunk when I bought my car. I don't know if it came from the factory or was picked up by a previous owner.
Despite the fact that rear visibility is good on the GT/4 I fitted it. The magnification is much stronger than I'm used to.

 

I don't really. I suppose the dealer could have added it. Did a nice job if so.

 

If you look at the new car brochures from when these cars were new, they show one single mirror. With that said, both of my 308's came with two mirrors when I purchased them. Which obviously means that either the dealer or the prior owner installed them.
