French-registered 3.8 RS leaving the Chateau de Prye, the mid-day stop of the Rallye de Paris, heading to Circuit de Magny-Cours for some track action.

Anything is possible in this market, and we are all awaiting the Scottsdale Auctions as a updated gauge of values. Look at it this way, is there another PTS 3.8 RS with the same mileage for sale for less than this estimate? Either way, its a very nice low-mileage PTS example of the 3.8 RS. Considering that MY 2011 is the last year for the manual gearbox & Mezger engine iconic combination in Rennsport cars, these cars have become very collectible.

The DZM reference refers to the trim-color package in black (air-intake bezel, door mirrors, wheels & wing end-plates). I think the auction text should say its the only one "in the USA" as we know that there is one in the UK http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143619399-post2739.html and another in the UAE with the same package.

I'd only hope for appreciation in price if you intend to sell. I bought our 3.0 Turbo Carrera for a reasonable sum, and almost the very next day, prices sky-rocketed. As I'm not selling, the only "benefit" to me is rising insurance, a need for better security on the garage, and a lingering doubt when using it as intended (at the track, weekends away, etc.).

I suppose it will make it easier to justify if the car ever needs money put into it.

2 guys around my area with one. Both black and orange. On one hand, I love the way the orange body looks and how bright it is, but orange wheels also set the car off with a black body.

    Green looks amazing.

Steve, you touch on an interesting topic. I have owned many old classics, and what I have found is that if they are to be used to any significant degree, they require money to be spent on them, significant amounts in fact, lots of money, often a percentage of the car's value, if done right and not on a shoestring.

The thing I like about the contemporary classics (Ferrari Supercars and more especially the last-of-a-series Porsche RS cars the topic of this thread) is that they require less money to be spent on them because their build-quality is light years better in the first place. Added to that, not only are someone of them as collectible and valuable, but they are so (dual-purpose road & track) usable, so amazingly reliable, and, just so much fun. The combination of the aforementioned cannot IMHO be beaten.

German-registered 3.8 RS in static and menacing repose...
