Pontiac GTO 4 on The Floor Hurst Shifter | eBay

Car is currently located in Virginia but still registered in France, so the car is VAT and import duty free in Europe!

Car has been partially restored (mostly a new paint) in 1988 by C.E. CORNWELL's Mechanical Repairs in Falls Church, Virginia.

I bought this car from it's original owner, a dental surgeon in Limoges, France. I used it for a while touring France and England. I had it repainted in 1987 then shipped to Virginia in April of 1988. Car has 60,727 miles (97,731 kilometers, the speedometer is in kilometers per hour) from new.

It has many desirable options, including tilt wheel, seat belts, padded sun visor and wood dash, power steering, power windows, power driver's seat, rear window defroster, power antenna, rear speaker, AM/FM radio, power steering, power brakes, 4 speed on the floor with Hurst shifter. Also comes with original Owner's manual.

Hardtop (pillarless) Cameo Ivory exterior, Red interior. Console-shifted 4-speed "Hurst shifter" manual gearbox, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power driver's seat, Rally wheels, Sport instrument cluster with tachometer, water temperature and oil pressure. 335 hp V8 389 cubic inch original engine (never out of the car), original owner's guide, AM/FM radio, rear window defroster.

Car imported new in 1966 into France by General Motors France. I have been the 2nd owner since May 1980 (34 years). Car is currently located in Virginia but still licensed in France, so the car is VAT and import duty free in Europe!

Someone asked me via Tapatalk if the car has ever been in an accident. Unfortunately I am - very - inexperienced with Tapatalk and I lost the message.

The car has never been in an accident and does not have rust. Yes, the interior is original.

The first owner was a dental surgeon in Limoges, and he kept good care of the car for the first 14 years.

Under my 34 years stewardship the car was kept in a public underground parking in Paris for a few years, then one year under a cover nearby Versailles (temperate climate) and for the past 25+ years in a climate controlled garage in NoVA.

How much are you asking, and there must be more to the story about France - were you working / living there?

Always liked the '65 MY, but this car looks great - GLWS!

Thanks! I am asking $40k. I was born there. I shipped the GTO to NoVA for a light restoration. My initial idea was to have it restored in the US because shipping was cheap and parts and expertise available at a much cheaper cost than in France back then (and probably more so today).

Mechanic became sick and the restoration was delayed.

When I moved to Virginia 26 years ago the GTO was still there, so it ended up here. :)

Very cool! I bet there weren't many Pontiac GTOs running around France - then or now! :)

Correct although a month after I acquired it an old Parisian lady offered me her automatic '66 triple carburetor convertible. She wanted like $1,400 for it (about $4,250 in 2014 terms) and I could not really afford it. I imagine that her car today would be worth a bit more...

I don't know what pushed GM France to homologate the GTO for the French market?

Can it be titled/registered in the US?

That is a nice car, love that shifter on the floor. It has that "grab this and go" look to it.
Thinking not to many American muscle cars from the 60s have a General Motors (France) data plate on them ?

I certainly think so: it went through custom in Baltimore back in 1988. I have the original May 21st, 1980 French title. GTO was first titles on March 8th, 1966.

I saw car in the midst of restoration back in the 80s.

It was a very straight car, in a great color combo.

    Best of luck.

Ferrarichat is quite an extraordinary web site: I would never have imagined to find a witness!

    Thank you for your post.

May be the original owner will chip in next? :)
