Any projections on how long it will take to put this one down?

Which one, we've got a few going on ?

Adelaide could get worse, the temps haven't hit the high numbers yet and Victoria's fires have only just started

 

On "Macro" level - Fire "Season" is what we'd call it around the household. How long of a "Season" do you suppose this year may have left in it?

Pop was Chief of a Fire Station in foothills of Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in '50s-'70s. Suffice it to say, we don't like raging wildfires in our backyard or yours.

On the "Micro" level . . . Well, it's anything but micro to those losing homes, structures, lives & animals in too many forms in their locale.

I think it fair to say that Summer has just started to bite.

Another 2 months of high fire danger.

Perth has recorded it's hottest day in 18 years = 44.4 degrees Celsius.

Lives are often lost.

 

I flew directly over where the fire started when the first alarms were going out.

Fire aircraft were being scrambled to the area, but despite my having a very good look to try to see "the fire" I couldn't see anything apart from a tiny wisp of smoke which I suggested to the nurse looked like someone had burnt a snag on the barbie.

Two hours later this was the view from my house.

It's amazing how quickly these things take hold!

What is the state govt's attitude to burning off in winter? It was the Greens in the ACT who's ideas contributed to their terrible fires a few years ago.

Since chucking Labor out in NSW, the govt has quietly reintroduced well planned hazard reduction in winter and, so far at least, it appears to be making a big difference.

 

That's a little too close for comfort I think!

 

There is a general feeling amongst non-greens that the lack of sensible burning off and clearing each year has contributed to the severity of fires in the area. Certainly that is more of a contribution than any mythical "climate change".

I don't know what the official SA government policy is, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a general thrust towards what NSW is now doing.

Ironically, by far the biggest Green stronghold in SA is the Adelaide Hills.
So the people who vote for them the most are the most likely to have their houses burnt down as a result of their dopey policies...

 

The closest it got to us was about 15km, but even so the orange glow was clearly visible that night all along that horizon.

The kennel we take our girls to when we go on holidays was destroyed with the loss of many animals.

 

I heard about the kennel, very very sad.
