It would be best to just compare the coupes and spiders, not the Scuds and Speaciales...
458 is best looking modern ferrari imo It should be 430 or 360. In that case i would take 430 as more masculine and modern looking
I have a 430 spider but think the 458 is better looking in most regards. Only thing I miss on the 458 is the glass engine cover. I'm not really fond of the louvered vents on the rear engine lid. To me, the 458 is another better evolution of the modern Ferrari. But the issue becomes closer if comparing the Scud to the 458!!! Cheers FN
430 looks better from some angles and 458 from others. Frontal view goes to 430 by a long shot w shark nose vintage nostrils and embossed drivers mirror. Rear view probably 458 but not by much. 3 port triple exhaust very cool points go to 458. Side view about a tie, 430 has iconic scoops from the legendary 375MM and very cool to see when you drive and see those big pods in the rear view. Rocker panels and door curve onto the side profile goes to 458, the side profile line flows nicely. Overall, the 430 but not a huge landslide like 430 is over 360. The delta is closer between the 458 and 430 in both performance and looks it seems like. 458 could use a better front face though that's for sure, maybe color code it instead of just the black mouth frontal area.
I voted for the 458 Italia. There's just something so sexy about this car, its shape, the active aerodynamics, it seems like it's a bit from the future. The tail end of the 458 Italia is not my favorite angle, but just about any shot from the front has me weak at the knees. Also, I'd like to point out that I'm not a fan of the folding hardtop on the 458 Spider, because it eliminates the gorgeous view of the engine under glass. That makes me sad. The 430 is a great looking car, seems like (according to the votes) both the 360 and the 458 Italia trump the "looks" department. But, don't make me go into the differences in the transmissions!
458. Is there really any question? The 430 is more of an analytical design. 458 is pure classic Ferrari passion.
I own an F430 Spider and a 458 Spider. I voted for the 458, mainly because of the organic, flowing lines on the sides of the car. I also love the windshield of the 458 Spider, which drops down on the top corners, giving it almost a domed effect. I'm not a fan of the 458 Italia roofline, preferring the Boxer-like look of the Spider roofline. I think that the best lines of the F430 are the front end and the scoops on the quarter panels, reminiscent of those on the 250 LM. I miss the engine lid window on the 458 Spider, but I prefer the roofline on the 458 Spider to that of the soft-top F430. My cars are both Tour de France Blue Metallic, so the comparisons are easier to make, without color differences accounting for a preference for one car's design over the other's. Fred
The 458 is a pretty aggressive and angular design. I can definitely see people preferring older designs. Also a very wide car.
Fred, Do you have some photographs of both cars side-by-side that we could review? I'd like to see those.
I was just thinking, on the subject of these purely "Does X look better than Y" polls, maybe somebody might think it a good idea to post a poll with the 360 versus the 458 Italia on looks? I have a feeling I know how it would go... Anybody think that a good idea? Or would that be a poor poll subject?
3 years ago, methink poll would have been different. I guess folks are warming up to the 458 design a lot more.
IMHO the 458 moved the game forward in every area. When the 348,355,360,430 came out, they were Ferrari's "entry level" car. And they had the performance of the sports cars of the day. The 458 really is in the super car leagues, or at least the super car minor leagues. And I think it has looks to match. So to my eyes they both are winners because the 430 looks great for a sports car; the 458 great for a supercar. That said, I voted 458 because I think the 430 won't go down as one of the iconic Ferrari shapes in the vein of the 308; whereas I am convinced the 458 Italia (not the Speciale) will.
Man there's no love for the F430 ... :-( I guess the striking quarter panel air intakes from the famous 250 LM and the front air nostrils of the legendary "Shark-Nose" of the 1950's Ferrari fame and the rear end and tail lights of the iconic Enzo ....all that put together in a beautiful yet aggressive tasteful package is just not enough...c'mon has everyone lost their minds!! lol
Both cars are pretty, but the 458 is prettier. It is the natural progression of having come from the 360 to the 430 and onto the 458. Now, if you asked which sounds better...430 at redline all day long. However, both are incredible machines. I am glad to have experienced them both.
