It's a vapour barrier so you need to make it watertight.

    no fire-proof needed?
I don't want it to burn while driving

Fire proof would be a plus.. But not needed.

Unless there is a problem with your car and a component is really overheating..

Where do you think the heat is coming from in that area? Directly behind the sheet is the steering rack and anti roll bar as well as bits of the braking system - the area is open to the elements, hence the need for a vapour barrier.

It was introduced mid production. Many cars did not have it at all.

Looks like the polyethylene foam that you see wrapped around electronic equipment when you open the box.

There will be plenty of that material in China, where you are.

Earliest cars had a rubber seal around the back of the panel. You can use a sheet of plastic and some double sided tape..

I really hate that this is not something you can replace in an OEM fashion. Once you cut it, it's never gonna be the same. Maybe it's just not that critical, but it feels wrong for me to just patch things up.

If you wish you can buy the a replacement part from Ferrari - the part number is 66212900. However, this area should be accessed at least once a year by your servicing tech (if only for an inspection). You can see why they are just taped back up.

Absolutely agree, not least if all because there is a receiver drier bottle behind that shield that should be replaced periodically.

A Velcro strip on the back of it would allow re-entry, if you wanted to avoid that "racer tape" look!!

Thanks Aldous, I had looked at the parts diagrams before and did not notice it back there. :-( Great to know it can be purchased!

When I looked at mine it had never been removed before which made me more concerned about cutting into it.

P/N 66212900 is called "WATER PROTECTION CLOTH" & sells for under $70 from Ricambi.

Why half ass it? Just order the correct part & be done with it.
