We all suffer from one form of existential angst or another.

He thinks therefore he might or might not be.

No kidding, but it seems that some people have gotten all butt hurt over this.

I would be interested in seeing how a golf club did so much damage to cause a salvage title. But if no frame damage to the car and if it has the service history then nothing to lose at all!!!

I agree. There's no reason that the car should suffer any more abuse. Physical or verbal.

The OP on the other hand...

Hey Mike , David scared the bejesus out of me. I think a 5 minute ban is appropriate. Lol . David I'm still laughing. I also think he's secretly negotiating to buy Tom's car.

I'm considering buying this car not only because it's priced right and would be a lot of fun, but I'm sure when it comes time to sell, the entire printout of this thread will actually ADD value to the final price!!!

    Food for thought...

There is a world of difference with a car that HAS a salvage title, and one that HAD a salvage title. I know many would say if it's ever been salvage, it's always salvage. The real world though works a bit different. Of course neither is the same value as a new car.

If the current title is clean, you can easily insure it, register it, and transfer title... For many, a salvage 15 years ago, is different than a salvage last year. A car driven 15 years has proven some durability, for example.

I don't pretend to know how this works, but some states did (do?) legally offer a non branded title upon transfer. It's still a car with a story, and it will be on car fax. Registering, insuring, licensing, financing a car with a current clean title isn't an issue. Right or wrong... Is what it is...

That being said. If you buy the car for 20% less, drive it, and sell it again for 20% below market... What's the difference?

I am sure there a salvage cars that are crap. But there are cars that are fine. You need to figure out which any car is, and then decide accordingly.

I bought a caddy with a clean history from a dealer. Months later the front side just split, and the hood no longer fit. Mechanic puts it on the lift and tells me the frame is botched, and was welded by a 2 year old. Car was toast. Dealer took it back after yelling and screaming. History was spotless.

Had another caddy, and I was in an accident. Rear ended someone. $15,000 damage to a $25000 car. They fixed it, title stayed clean...

My wife's minivan had a city telephone pole fall on it. The whole roof was cut off, and replaced. Car wasn't totalled. Drove fine until it hit 130,000 miles and traded it in with no issues to the dealer that fixed. The value hit was $1000 at trade in. I got the poor value, rather than the good. Whoopee.

Morale of the story... Judge the car based on how it looks. A clean car fax hardly guarantees virginity. I am not saying folks should rush out and buy a salvage. But there are tons of cars with colorful history...

In this case, what do you guys figure the spread in value on this car is? He is asking 30. Someone posted that parts cars are going for 30. Another person posted that high mileage clean cars can be had for 30.

So, what do you guys figure the real selling price difference is between a clean and salvage 348? 5000$? More?

And before anyone gets any ideas... My testarossa is not, nor has ever been, a salvage :). It's a 2 owner virgin and staying that way...

    Good luck

The difference according to car fax is approx $6300.00 below book value.
Again, according to Car Fax when I purchased the car
