Kubica's injuries were physical. Nerves regrow at 1mm /day. Peripheral nerves NOT central nerves or neurones. Young brain injured do well-you never lose hope with those. miraculous recoveries do occur in the young, sometimes unbelievable recoveries. At 25 we stop growing neurons and start losing them. Michael is 43. I really hate being the only party-pooper here.

Can that be countered with stem cells?

Agreed. Doctors can't seem to define "death" anyway.
I hope for MS to have "life" again but wonder if it isn't already a moot point.
Too bad his fame now causes so much additional grief for his family. Worse that there are those who unabashedly exploit the situation. Perhaps they will walk a mile in Michael or Corrina's shoes one day.

My daughter had a severe brain injury at 16 which was near fatal. I know the drill and lived it. I knew what was going on right away and know the time frames involved. I saw them come and go in ICU some just died. Some recovered relatively fast. The time spent in the first 6 months is the rapid recovery time for the brain and then up to a year. After that you get more but the bulk of the possible healing is over. Michael is in a really bad spot at this point based on what little I know. It is a real tragedy.

I was going to toss a 2004 Factory F1 calendar yesterday, but there were too many great photos in there...

If anyone wants some I will share.

Get Well soon and Happy Birthday to Schumi..
I can imagine he is glad to be home with the family, were it I, that is what I would want.

Time will tell, on all other concerns..

Kind thanks for this Andrew. Since we've no confirmed idea of his status all we can do is hope, but I certainly get what you're saying. I lost my brother to a terrible head injury, he was 18. It took two weeks. The unknown in these situations I think is what's the most difficult to deal with.

There is a lot of promise in stem cells, and work is being done in reconnecting spinal nerves to permit ambulation. Michael probably lost major brain function, but myself like most other so called experts can only read between the lines as to what his specific injuries were. Whatever ,I wish him only the best.

Kindest regards to all those with friends or relatives with brain injuries. I am a parent too. My son was electocuted on the job this past August, this caused a cardiac arrest. His friends gave hip CPR for 10 minutes till the paramedics arrived and defibrillated him. Those days in ICU were every parents nightmare, and I was exoeriencing this from the other side (my wife is an RN). They woke him up 5 days later and he is 95% back, may never reach 100% but thank god anyways. 10 minutes of poor brain perfusion are like a lifetime. The space between an organ doner and recovery is very small.

How about those who claim to have knowledge of his condition but do not, the peddlers of "news" when there is none.

After the initial feeding frenzy (which is normal and par-for-course for any superstar) the news media have pretty much abandoned this story. Very little comes through.

There aren't many who claim to have knowledge. The last few people with "updates" were Massa, Todt and Streiff, who himself his a paraplegic, so lets not beat up too much on the guy.

At this point the only people who make money off this case are Kehm and the doctors and nurses in his 24x7 care and that is done by the will of Corinna.

It is easy and oh-so-popular to blame the media, but they aren't really doing anything anymore with this case.

    You're right.
I'm not going to excuse anyone for false information just because he is a paraplegic.
Media? The frenzy will resume once there is a change, some will simply make something up.

I wonder how people decide that the words of that person Philippe Streiff bear any truth in them, when, as far as I know, Sabine Kehm has denied he had any contact to their family and is not a friend. Why would she lie about it? And, I think they would not let random people see him or get information about his condition. What are then the ways he (or some Italian journalists who have written about Michael in the past few weeks too) could have got such information? Friends who see him? NO. Medical staff? Unlikely, given that a whole year leaks from France and Switzerland have equaled zero. Obviously not only the efforts to keep all private have been very good but also the professionals have been such, respect for them for doing that.. Such sources are extremely unreliable to put it mildly. The people who see Michael can be counted with the fingers of both hands. Believing random people who claim to "know" is naive. I'm not sure what to make of "make money" for Sabine especially, as she has been a long time friend and a trusted person to the family. She's doing not only her job but also staying true to her friend and his family.

I think the last time we can actually trust someone's word who actually visited Michael would be Jean Todt.

What can there be to report on Michael? I would think his condition would be very disheartening as he is just the shell(no pun intended) of a man he used to be.
He is attended to round the clock with a good size staff which tells me he is a very frail invalid who basically cannot do much but stare into space. I think people just want to hear the truth and its not good.
I cant imagine what Michael is going through but my will would never have me alive in that state......I watched my mom slowly die for a year and a half from cancer and I know wish I would have listened to her when she got the diagnosis she had cancer, she said I dont want to fight it... I convinced her to fight it but with most lung cancer patients its futile.
I also dont know what was in Michaels will but I bet hes in a living hell right now.

......or...he might be doing ok with measureable signs of improvement weekly!

    who the hell knows!

I just can't see why anyone would keep him alive if he's just a vegetable with no prospect of a decent recovery. That would be too cruel to imagine.

Did he? I never realized that. All i recall he said MS will never drive an F1 car again, which is not bad at all.

At the end of the day, we just want him to be at least do normal stuff..walk, run, eat everything by his own..

His comments were seen as too positive and so he had to back track. Same thing happened with Massa's comments.

I mentioned here a while ago, i visited this charity home, to see a very youngman, bed ridden, after an accident at his factory. He has a massive head injury.

What i saw was not a pretty sight. Granted his eyes was open, but then was it. He cannot move, can only move his eyes, and cannot speak. His head reflected scars of the operations he had. He as someone to constantly massage his muscles, arms, legs, etc.

When i spoke to his family, they said prayers are making him get better.

However, i sincerely hope this is not the condition of my hero, and many peoples hero, at his home. I cannot imagine someone who has lived life to the fullest, in the fast lane only to be in vegetative state.

As someone mentioned above, there is hope, and there is false hope. I know it's very wrong to say this, but, i don't even think MS himself, wants to live the rest of his life like this.

I hope i'm wrong about this, and i do apologise in advance should i have offended anyone with my comments and thoughts.
