Thank you -- that is very useful.

The panel that you are mentioning needs change is the body panel right underneath the two bolts that make up the bracket on the other side of the engine bay is that correct?

I found this picture on another site (I think the member is also here on FChat) and I don't see necessarily why the panel needs to be modified assuming the original exhaust fit in there without modifications. Do the pipes to the headers not go on either side of this panel in both exhausts?

    Thanks

    Correct.

The most prolifically produced Countach variant is the DD 25th, followed by the DD QV. Most people seem to forget these production facts.

But, as stated already, they are all Countachs, and all the different variants mean something for everyone.

First Countach crossed the block today at RM. 88 US Spec car black / black. Very low mile, appeared very original overall. All in priced was $467.5K. There were quite a few bidders on the car until about $410-415K. Finally hammered at $425K plus fee. All US bumpers and skirts still on the car.

I would consider this a very positive sale for the Countach market overall.

I think that the miles were the wild card in this one and this will definitely be a high water mark for this version of our beloved Countach. I'm curious to see what Gooding's side draft weber car will go for.

On another note, I thought that Bonhams prices yesterday were a little soft but RM's were quite strong. I'm sad to have not been in attendance this year but from several friends who were, the overall quality of the cars is not up to par this year. That's not to say that there aren't some stellar cars going across the block, just that there are way more ratty drivers that unusual.

A 288 GTO for 2.75M is sooooooooo much more alarming than anything happening in the Lamborghini world. Thats crazy talk.

I have a very good friend who was the under bidder on that car. I was on the phone with him while the bidding was going on. I thought if any 288 deserved that price, it could be this one.

It evidently was! Seems unreal to me, but I have said it all along. The world has a lot of cash to dispose of and cars were just too cheap.

If a car sits, its pretty cheap to own over the long term. Instead of having houses all over the country or world that you rarely use but pay tax insurance maintenance ect on, why not have a car collection that sits idle. Your cash flows will be better over the hold period and arguable a good car is a better store of value than a home IMO. People may be catching on to that.

Crazy world but deep down I expected it to be this way.

288s for one reason or another, seems to gravitate towards people who can actually afford them, for the long haul.Must be the concervative apperance. They bring a steady double of the f40s, also a much lower prod nmbr.good news for the collector car hobby in general, value vise.

I didn't sense any softness relative to the vehicles and condition thereof being sold. Still very strong sales across the board. Many of the estimates were pushing the limits of value at both auctions so it's be expected that some did not meet estimate.

Since the cars have passed the 25 year rule I wont be astonished to see the ROW Spec QV's and 25 Th Anniversario DD's arrive to America.

Not really, we have sold four (4) GTOs in the last year all well above $2m, the auction number was all-in so it was an expected auction price. We sell Enzos in that range also, the latest just this week, so the Ferrari Supercars are in that range and have been for about a year or so.

That said, a lot of substandard cars at the auctions, a lot of lower estimate sales, and a lot of no-sales, the latter being very significant.

    Astute observation.

The typical GTO buyer really is immune to most markets, at least from what I encounter. It has a timeless disposition, and is the First of the Ferrari Supercar Series and always will be. It was built under the auspices of Enzo Ferrari himself, and it is a genuine Homologation Ferrari aimed at FIA Group B racing. It is both beautiful & rare, and is both easy to use and fast. They work well and are pretty reliable too. Very special car.

    Chris,

There is a thread noting the overall sales http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/vintage-ferrari-market/474093-scottsdale-auctions.html, and perhaps the Lamborghinis are doing better, but a lot of Ferraris are not selling initially:

1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Alloy Long Nose $3.2M NOT SOLD

1955 250 Europa GT Alloy at $2.75M NOT SOLD

1972 Dino GTS red $310K NOT SOLD

    1966 330 GTC gold $600K NOT SOLD

I know the owner of the 275 and he took it home already.

Of course there may be deals later and the auction website may adjust to account for this, but the initial no-sale rate is up significantly.

I agree a very special car. But these were $600-$700k not long ago (5 years) if I am not wrong. Thats 400% right there.

I didn't look at these cars, but not a long list in the grand scheme of things. I only know the cars that I've been at least looking at and they are moving beyond where I expected them to. I can tell you that a not so great Dino with non matching trans just did considerably better than that at Gooding. There was also a long nose that sold yesterday at RM for $2.75MM range. Not trying to be confrontational, but being here, the vibe feels positive. As always car and condition is critical. As always, I respect your opinion.
