I agree, when you go to these events, you experience first-hand the scope and interest in the car hobby, and it is very re-assuring.

I for one am glad that more are using the word "unrealistic".

Gooding Countach LP500S went for $390K all in. Paint and interior did not show well as well as other needs. About where I expected this to go.

Well bought (and sold) spend $100k on it (in the right way) and you will have a very well cosmetically and mechanically sorted car. Properly sorted and presented, this car might have a shot at their high estimate.

I think that most Scottsdale auction estimates this year were unrealistic for the specific example (of whatever) not for a TOP example of whatever particular model.

I think you would get your money back if you invested $100K, I don't see it at $600k today.

I don't see it that high either. Wasn't the "high" estimate $550k ? If so, by the time you were done making it "right", that wouldn't be a crazy ask.

I thought Joe said this car was dealer bought for $350 a couple months ago. It hammered at $355, which did not include seller fees. So how was any money made on this? Or, in other words, how was it "well sold"? What am I missing?

No money was made at those numbers.

I consider it well sold when an intelligent fair market price is realized. Obviously, the flipper/seller could have realized a profit if they had sold it themselves.

  15. I consider it a win for the end user. The car could have just as easily sold for more. Auctions are fickle.

Not necessarily, auctions tend to bring more money than any other way of selling, ATM.

Agreed its a fair market price, but per Early Cat's comment, it remains to be seen if an end user bought it.

That would put you at $742k all in, which is strong money for the car. There were several bidders up until about $625k, then it started trailing off.

Agreed. I think the auction estimate was over the top on this one as well. I think that a particltarly outstanding original or immaculately restored S1 could play in their pre sale edtimate territory. This just wasn't the example to do that today.

Agreed estimate of 800-1M for a perfect LP400S is about right. 725K was about right for this car. As I think Joe pointed out, there were several issues with this car. The car deserved a total and perfect restoration, (a perfect restoration on this car is 200-250, which puts you at 1M same as the last immaculate lp400s)

The car with it's minor issues was a very nice car. I saw it recently. Great new paint and nice interior although not new. Not a bad color either. A rare car with few ever available and for many the most desirable variant. There were two LP400 Periscopas that were in much worse condition that brought some stagnating numbers recently. The low mileage S1 that needed a ton of work sold over a million. I think the seller was right not to sell as with the auction fee he would be way under it's real value. He'd yield around $600k. I am sure if result was a net to seller of $750-800k the car would sell.

Which is exactly what I posted a few months ago I thought this car was worth, and what I still think its worth today.

I'm sure most owners who understandably want to see values ever-increasing will not agree, but my observation based on the sale of the LP500S and the no-sale of the LP400S is that a cooling-off is in effect in the marketplace.

Whats the real prices for the Countach LP400S Series 1+2 low body Models now? I think its like the same car. When its original and in a good condition like Note 2. I think from 500.000 Euro to 700.000 Euro. Its this correct?
