Why are there so relatively few threads in the F12 forum? If you look at the total number of threads in the Model Specific forums, the F12 has the least number of threads by a long shot - not too many more than the Challenge forum. Are there that few owners? The age group older so less chitty chatty personalities? Model not out long enough? It would be nice to log in and see real owners opinions and bugs found/fixed. What gives?

It would be nice to see more posts but this is the smallest segment of owners right now based on production numbers. There are a ton more V8s produced and sold and being flipped on the used market. So you have constant new buyers plus Speciale and the A model.

There are not too many V12s built in the first place and not a ton being moved on the used market. There also is one F12 model and one FF model vs 4 versions of a single 458. The release of the spider, Speciale and Speciale A all created discussion and movement of used cars to spur new users etc.

I believe you see gradual increase in the current v12 form over the next couple years then once a new model comes out and all the guys upgrade you'll see new users move into the section and it'll pick up considerably.

Well said. Difficult to improve on the answer above, but maybe another reason for fewer F12/FF threads: not many ways to say "these are incredible cars...enjoy in good health."

Well, between the 458 Italia, Spider, Speciale and SA I believe there are 20k+ of those cars in circulation. Anyone have an idea about how many cars are in circulation between the FF and F12?

Whether or not, it is based on age? Hm, difficult. Perhaps a little, and in terms of finance, yes the V8's are easier to come by, and to some extent they may appeal to a younger crowd that are more willing to use the web and its forums.

If we look at the 599/612 forum, it looks to be more active than the Cali forum, but I might be wrong. Some of these people will at some point sell the 599 or 612 they may recently have aquired used, as the used FF and F12 market becomes more saturated, and thus the cars cheaper.

Also, as with the Challenge cars, the V8's does it would seem to me, and I may take a scolding for saying this, that they to some extent appeal to some who are more technically enthusiastic and tracking or modifying enthusiasts. This may or may not also be due to an age difference.

At the end of the day, it is difficult to say. It may simply be because the current owners are not that into web forums, and the number of cars out there are quite a bit less than the V8's etc. Many more new owners also choose to start with a mid engine V8 than a front engine V12.

What can you say about brand new cars? They are great, here are some photos and here are some modified examples. As the cars get older, the threads have a combination of appreciation plus technical plus maintenance and fixing plus restoration threads.

Also f12/ff owners tend to be more gentlemen type owners who are brought up to never kiss and tell. They don't like to brag. As the car gets older, younger owners become more prevalent and are much more used to sharing due to facebook etc.

Fewer cars overall, owners of V12 cars less like to mod, plus there seems to be much less to complain about!

I would say fewer owners Plus non owners are more interested in 458's because of their more exotic nature - IMO

Thanks for the replies. It just seems that with such an awesome vehicle that’s been out for at least a couple years there would be more to talk about. Maybe F12 owners are not first time owners so they’ve already asked all their questions regarding the electronics for example. I still don’t have much of a clue what all the buttons do. Then I was over in the 599 forum (or was it the Technical forum) and a very experience shop owner was describing how ball joints might only last 10K miles. You would think a close to half million dollar car when it’s all said and done would have lifetime ball joints! At least 100K miles. Have you heard of any bugs fixed? Is your car a keeper or a flip?

Another thing that was irking me is how do you answer the question that folks will ask when they learn of such an expensive car? You know, it ready is quite odd when folks talk about their new $35K car when you paid nearly that in tax! Personally, I just never talk about it because it’s at such a different level it can’t be compared or explained. Folks today are nerdy types and like the technical challenge of getting the most miles per gallon when, at their age, it used to be miles per hour!

Anyway, love to hear more F12 stories. How long have you owned yours, what’s the best part of owning it, why did you go front engine instead of the masses with their mid-engines, etc.

A conversation is an intersection between two people's points of view. Most people don't have the appreciation of sports cars, let alone supercars which is why coming here on fchat is really enjoyable. If someone has the passion and financial acumen than they will understand what the f12 is about. If not, not much point in talking about it for more than a few sentences.

Two reasons: torque, and that's where the engine belongs in an elegant super performance vehicle.

I was wondering the same same thing as solid state regarding the F12 ... I guess I did my part in posting every detail of my adventure. And as many of you know I have probably said as many ways as I can think of that the car is awesome

Yes I settled on Rosso Berlinetta. This time I am wrapping the entire car in xpel ultimate and clearplex on windshield as I learned my lesson with stone chip damage on the 458.

Every sports car manufacturer has a model that generates the most discussion and activity. In the case of ferrari it is currently the 458 (even the cali activity is relatively slow), for porsche it is the Gt3.

I get asked pricing all the time. I always simply tell them the base price plus how much my options cost ... the options almost always cost more then their entire car. My thought is why make them look it up on the internet, or in the magazines, just tell them. It shocks them but then they seem to better appreciate the difference which is pretty cool.

I think there are very few F12s out there so you don't see them here. I find the 458 very uncomfortable to drive since the front left wheel well takes up space in the cabin. I have had a spirited drive in a 458 but didn't find it that much more exciting than my California and my FF is way more exciting from the V12 power and sound. The V12 SOUND, intoxicating.

My sense is that the people who DON'T ask about pricing tend to be bikers. My last interaction with a group of Harleys prompted some questions about the car, but not the price. They wanted to know the technicals. At the end, one of them said, "I'm good with it." I'm good with them.

On the question of price, I really find it depends on whom is asking the question in how I respond.

Rick, if the person is coming from a place of negativity, and you can tell, I usually ask them why they would ask about price when they can learn that with any smart phone- why not ask about how I like it, how it drives etc.

Otherwise if the person is genuinely interested I will surely tell them the MSRP.

I one time had an old lady who was incredulous, I could tell she wanted to say "you spent THAT on a car!!!".. So I told her I had no idea what the car cost. She was gobsmacked. "How can you not know!" She demanded. I just said "It was a gift from my wife." I paused, smiled and then said "because I AM THAT GOOD".

Then I got in and drove away, and her jaw was still on the ground :D

A most superb color for an F12! Must be agony waiting for it. Great timing as most of the winter will be behind you I suppose. When is it due to arrive? What is the cost to do the whole car in Xpel - I think I was seeing something like $8-$10K or is that too much?

    Pretty funny Caeruleus!

Rick - I agree there must be relatively few F12s out there. Mine is the first and only one I 've ever seen in person outside of the dealership TBH. Much more striking in person that in print - like all Ferrari's. The F12 has a presence about it - really a wonderful form that just makes you feel good to be near.

As far as price, I only told my older brother and that's pretty much it. We have always been car guys and he thought I was crazy but when he looked it up and read the specs you could hear the excitement build. The specs are phenomenal for a street car. He wants to come see it pretty bad - maybe he'll drive down in the Spring (lives a few hours north). I will let him drive it so he can fully experience it. It will be like old times forty plus years ago. Very few people have this much power and performance at hand. We are all quite fortunate.

Other than my immediate family and you guys here, I've not even mentioned the car to others. Mostly because I've spoke of the engineering and performance of exotics a time or two at work and, to a person, they were uninterested or made pessimistic remarks about dedicating funds to a car. Times change fast. I wish my Dad could have seen it. Probably wouldn't have seen that many cylinders since the War.
