Those body gaps look way off. Is that the camera or were they horribly off?

Thanks for the high res photos!

The rust on the trunk liner was a result from the typical heater core hoses weeping from the clamp connections, I smelled the coolant when inspecting and found it right under the cover total cost ($2.35). All fixed and the trunk liner is shampooed and clean now, I agree it was dirty.

My other 355 had the same leak, check yours and be certain!

Seat color and condition came right back, dash isn't sticky, window switch was actually INSIDE the door. (Seller told me it fell in the door, he was right, there it was after pulling the door panel!)

Currently having the pod rewrapped, rest of the dash is mint.

The car needed some cleaning up! One day and it was sorted.

Body gaps seem consistent around the whole car, drivers door latch striker was a little loose so the door wasn't closing tight in those photos, I also resolved that.

    Your car is either a 95 or a 96, not sure but it's definetly a 2.7

All the previous "for sale" ads indicate it's a 95 and, as far as I know, all 2.7s are 95s.

Can you look at the riveted plate on the inside front of the driver door panel? post a pic if you can...

You can tell because the plenum chambers connect to each airbox. In the 96-99, they criss-cross into an "X" and then enter the airboxes on the side.

Congrats on the car, welcome to the brotherhood!

What's funny is I remember the guy selling it claimed to be a Ferrari mechanic. You would think that implied he had a sorted car to sell. Here you had to fix stuff that was long time derelict that it ended up rusting.

At least you are fixing and improving on what you bought. For the price you paid you could have got a Honda but you ended up with a Ferrari. Sounds like you did alright.

I think I saw a Eurospec car that was a 96 and had the same double throttle body as the US spec 95.
It's likely the 96 US model required the change for ODB2?

I woud be very leary of the engine out he suposedly completed. If he couldnt fix a window switch that fell into the door, a broken odo and a busted fuel gauge.......i highly doubt he can complete an engine out in the proper manner. He sId his shop did it.

Hi guys, I want to dispell any myths about the seller. I bought it from the shop owner/ mechanic, he was excellent to deal with and honest, seemed to know his cars quite well. The car was at a consignment shop first trying to get sold and then went back to his shop in late December, the window switch apparently fell in at the consignment store.. He sold me a great car and I can't say anything negative for the price I paid.

The spark plug covers were off because he changed the plugs, here is a pic of the stuff ready to install.

I am always weary of any work people do, I change fluids and cut oil filters open to get an "inside look" at how things are working, but this shop did the work they billed out on.

Here is a photo of the plug covers ready to go and the oil filter sliced open with NO DEBRIS or carbon.

Oil was like new. So far, I found clean oil filter, brand new fuel filter (only one found on left engine bay, odd because it may have two fuel pumps according to fuse box and its a 2.7 early vin 102) clean air filters, clean coolant (spilled some out during heater clamp work up front, clean oil. Next I will check the transaxle and drain it again (it was apparently changed but I will be certain).

I will take date code photos of the timing belts when I get it on the lift but I think you guys get the point.

Also, no rust in the luggage compartment, the rusty color was only staining on the carpet from coolant:)

I really don't dig that non crinkly (i.e. smooth) red paint on the cam covers. I think both sides of this debate are right -- there are too many red flags for many prospective buyers yet for $35k ish it's an appealing gamble for a DIYer. Looking forward to seeing your efforts to bring her back from the (mostly) dead.

So how does the window switch fall in the door? Someone push it too hard?

It fell in because the little trim bezel was missing that holds the switch. It has been since replaced. Again. $35000 driver to be expected.

Inop speedo hasn't been an issue so far. Probably speedo sensor connection if anything. My last f1 had a jumpy speedo when coming to a stop for a short time, I cleaned the connector by replugging it a few times and it went away. We all know any connection on an italian car is flaky. Car has racked up almost 200 miles since I first saw it on the odo.

That's weird, my guy drove it 15 miles or so and no speed or odo reading and someone else here drove it for some miles and it did not work. Now it works perfect for you?!?!?

Like I said, probably a connection if it happens again but it hasn't so far, Im really not concerned about it guys look at my title it has the mileage clearly listed do you want an odometer photo too to prove that it has moved since the ad in November? The car has been driven, I know you cant believe that it actually moves on its own power, but im sorry to break it to you boys. Haha come on,this is laughable now lets stop with the picking on the worlds cheapest gts that got 42000 views on ebay.

You guys try to pick out every flaw on this car like its a hunk of turd:

Go do a quick search and see how many owners have had speedo trouble.

Go do a quick search and see how many owners have some wear on their interior.

Go do a quick search and see how many owners have leaky coolant lines up front.

Why hasn't anybody asked me if there is sticky interior yet? Because it doesn't have one.

Why hasn't anybody asked about the passenger airbag cover? Because it is perfect.

You all paid a boat load more than $35k for your cars and pay mechanics lots of money to keep your imperfect cars perfect in your eyes.

I am happy and content with the condition of this car, I have nothing further to justify to the anal retentive support group thank you for the warm welcome and I hope to meet some of you this summer.

So do you consider it TMU? Do you always cut open oil filters and post pics on a forum? Weird to say the least. But if this car ever shows up for sale again, this thread should pop up in anyone's search. It's definitely a TMU car and that has been well documented here in this thread. Dr. rob personally drove it and the mileage did not move, that's proof enough for TMU.

LMAO, some of these clowns probably disconnect odometers and thats why the bolsters are destroyed on "5000" mile beauties. How many of you call your cars TMU? Or get your cars painted and don't report it to insurance to save your "carfax" report. LOL You all know what we are talking about lets not get silly boys. I have seen a lot of "low mileage examples" at the meets I have been to. I was the proud owner of a 42000 mile one that looked better or as good as the "low mileage" examples. I am proud to see these cars driven, my porsche 944 turbo got sold with 175000 and boy did she run good. Like I said in my first post I love my cars when they are used.

So you agree it is a TMU but you are justifying it by saying everyone on this board disconnects there's at times......did I get that right?

    I bought a 35k car myself 3 years ago.

However, mine was cosmetically neglected (windshield oxydation, body corrosion, scratched mags, dirty, sticky, etc...)

But mechanically it was great (even if it was due for a service) Not a drop of oil or issue with the car.

I tought I made the greatest deal but then ended up spending 30k to bring it back to full glory. I don't regret because of the learning/bonding I did with the car and the satisfaction of doing a lot myself.

So yes, a 35k car is great but whatever you expect to spend on fixing up the issues, double or triple that amount, take it from me, I know!

If anyone is curious, here is my summarized thread all in pictures of my restoration (was voted "thread of the month" once:
