The saving grace for "monomarque" events, in my opinion is the fact that my 308 isn't the shining star drawing all the attention. In fact, the main reason I have for going to another f car, is to avoid the attention. I love the car, but I didn't buy it to impress other people.

    Alan,

You sold two out of three, so now you're left with only one, that's right?

A video of a Hagerty panel discussion from this year's Scottsdale auctions recently lobbed onto YouTube, it's entitled "Boom or Bust? What 2015 holds for the collector car market".

At the 59:50 mark an audience member asks Wayne Carini about his opinion of where 3x8, 348 and 355 values are headed in the near future:

I do go to many Ferrari meets but the main reason is the people not so much the cars. Pretty much like this forum, which effectively is a kind of Ferrari meet.

Does anyone think the 308 is in a bubble but the 246 isn't?

He said 308's will continue to rise; undervalued for a while. 348 & 355 both flat...

Also said if you buy one, get a good car and just do the belts. Said too many get hung up on the belt issue, so just do it so you know what you have.

Wayne further said that the 328 has already moved - good cars over $100K (which we know) and that the 308 would follow.

Mainly stated that the early cars and GTBs were the keepers, but another panelist was high on the QV (he purchased one). Said these cars were way too cheap and the market was lagging too long, that inevitably they would move.

Of course, this is just their opinion, but given that the acknowledgement, it's pretty safe to say this isn't a bubble.

Given current low prices, not a 308/328 bubble. "Too cheap for too long" is the phrase Hagerty used on their site, and I agree.

With 246s, though, it seems like the later cars and GTSs are the ones to have.

Does anybody have a theory why 328 seems to be valued the same (or slightly higher ) than a 308, except Vetroresina? Generally, the first or earlier versions/series of classic cars are more valued. The increased performance of later models does normally not change this. Neither the performance or reliability compared to a 308 QV is huge. Is it the looks with flat nose and colored bumpers?

The 328 really is bulletproof. 308s continually improved (last QVs have many improvements over the first 308s), and the 328 cleaned up all the issues.

I agree that performance isn't a big deal anymore -- they're all relatively slow these days.

Most people regard the 308 and 328 as basically identical, aesthetically. (Bizarre, if you're close to the cars, but in the real world the 328 is perceived as basically the debugged and updated 308.)

That sounds like a possible reason. That is what seems to be generally stated in the huge amounts of articles around 3x8, that 328 is the more reliable of them. I noticed that all people I talked to so far, that are interested in getting a 3x8 have been really specific on late 308 QV OR 328, rather than either of them. It will be interesting to see if the price curves will stay the same over time between the two models.

I don't think it's a bubble. Classic Alfa's have been rising for a few years now as people realise they are great cars and good value and don't rust anymore than any other non galvanised classic including Ferrari's!!!!. There have been a lot of magazine articles in the last few years raving about them and this has also helped values.

Or there is the other argument that says the original 308 GTB was the pinnacle of the design and it all went downhill with the subsequent models. As more technology came in with fuel injection, emission controls, servo etc, you lost the purity of the shape Fioravanti created. With the fuel injection you lost horse power and the sound of the carbs, but most of all you lost those wonderful early Ferrari classic slider controls and toggle switches. Just saying.....
