The Michael Schumacher Career/Injury/Recovery Thread

It's terrible.

I was watching Lilyhammer yesterday and one of the characters came out of a coma but could also only sit in a wheelchair and not move/speak etc. At one point, when he gets pushed out of the way the camera fades back to him and a tear rolls down. Immediately made me think of Schumacher and I do hope he's in a better state than that...


Hopefully with the use of stem cells or something he can improve .

And in all cases sorry that is just hell for those people. Yes I understand that some might be hanging on to medical break throughs but every day like that would feel like our worst month ... it is beyond sad for every person not just MS

What gives me hope is knowing that a person such as Michael Schumacher most definitely already had a very specific Will drawn up quite some time ago which I certain addressed concerns such as those being discussed. There is no way Michael's will would omit something such as a major head injury which is so obvious for a person of his lifestyle. I'm wouldn't doubt there is a portion which specifically addresses when to pull the plug and under what circumstances. I can only imagine his will looks similar to that of a F1 driver contract which of course are exhaustive and read like Russian novels. How perverse that may be

 

Why would you think he would not chage his will after leaving racing. I would think the exact opposite.

 

He's massively wealthy so I'm sure once he was completed racing it was altered, but not much. Injuries such as this are almost always universally addressed into any will I've ever read for a person with considerable assets. This is done for powers of attorney reasons which is required when assets need to continue to be controlled but said person is incapacitated or dies. I cannot fathom Michael's will wouldn't have language addressing very specifically such situations.

 

Yes and no...I see both sides of the arguments. With Medical advances being made quicker and better all the time, it's worth a gamble, for lack of better word.

If I was around 60 and it happened now, and I saw my kids grow up etc, I probably would say ''end it''. But at my age, I think it would be worth waiting.

 

Seriously I think you mind would go insane after no longer than a month, so even if they did fix the rest of you you would need professional help for the rest of your life.

Also in regards to MS's will. Attitudes change and what he wrote then might be different to what he thinks now, assuming he can think.

IMO life is all about quality. There is absolutely no quality when a vegetable. We don't do it to our pets ...

That's very much my belief & hope.

Is Corinna simply being cruel? Is she being duped by the medical profession? I just can't see it. As I've said before, she's no dummy and is surely surrounded by smart folk who have read Michaels 'medical directive' contract over & over. I'm also certain he not only has one, but probably one of the 'best' ever written.

Furthermore, we don't know that he's a 'vegetable'. Last reports seemed to suggest that he was at least somewhat able to communicate - If true, I'm sure he could somehow make himself understood should he wish to pass on, or more likely, 'tell' them he wants to continue fighting.

Incredibly sad, but I'm not giving up hope yet. If that makes me a popinjay (horrible term btw) then so be it.

I can only join in wishing Michael and his family the best.

 

SOme article on FB, saying some guy came out after 12 year vegetative state, and knowing what was happening around him..

 

Just awful.

But I would say his estate and will was updated at least annually. If not more often. Changing laws/taxes etc and where his income came from etc. racing / endorsements etc.

A forever changing world.

 

I read it, and also recall personally when my dad was in a coma due to a malignant brain tumor. He did emerge for a short while, and recalled with remarkable clarity things that had happened around him while he was comatose.

The thing is, often times there is still a person trapped in that malfunctioning body...I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but it is the thing that sustains hope for the loved ones.

I will admit that my dad was able to tell me during his brief emergence that he did not desire to be in a vegetative state.

I have experienced first hand on a hospital ward, folk with brain injuries, I felt so helpless, sad and so lucky that I swerved a bullet, all at the same time. I now enjoy each day as if it's my last, even stuck in traffic.

He eventually passed away...damned sarcoma couldn't be defeated.

As the article says; either the sale was planned long ago, or they are just selling what is deemed unnecessary, looking at the current situation.

It's really sad, and i still think and pray for MS everyday. I genuinely hope he can pull through this, and lead a normal life, walk, etc. No need to jump into an F1 car anymore. Just a normal life.

The only good thing is that Michael's not really home. If he were it would be even worse.
