I looked up the Vin and it looks clean. Am I missing something?

Just today on the other site , in a thread about a 50k 355 at barrett jackson , f1moving tried smearing the rep of the yellow 355 by saying it too was salvage , when it clearly isn't and has no history of ever being salvage . I felt it was my duty to straighten that out . Is this some kind of game , bashing other cars , in an attempt , to what , try to make their own car worth more , so their unjustified asking price doesn't sound ridiculous ?

 

When it was on consignment the vin was advertised to be- ZFFPR4ZB000102602

1995 Ferrari 355 GTS | Luxury Brokers International

But the vin on the car says- ZFFPR42B000102602

So 2 95 GTS's with the same last 6 numbers of the vin?

Also car has a plate showing it's a 96?

So 2 vins with B and Z transposed. Z vin shows salvage records B vin does not.

Could be why the vin on the title posted here is blanked out.

Or it could be why an F355 could be in a collision, hurricane Sandy and have an inop odometer and end up with a "clean" title.

Just a guess, I'm probably just being to harsh and pessimistic as usual.

Hey brothers, more FACTS to report here. I haven't avoided any questions or statements, just haven't had the time to respond to every one in order.. thanks for clarifying the car has NO SALVAGE HISTORY. I previously didn't have a copy of the autocheck, thanks intimidat8. Do you have the carfax as well? I would like to keep it for my records.

Its out of my control if anybody who previously owned the vehicle /sellers/ads etc/mis stated the vin. The vin matches on the cradle of the engine and steering wheel and door tag so all is well! I have a clean title which matches the car, and the car has no salvage history, (there is a 2009 accident on autocheck, I think carfax doesn't note this because the 2011 advertisement of the car came with a clean report) Look closely, it was not washed, nor is either vin/title salvaged at any point!! AWESOME . Since it was an import I would venture to guess it got a reassigned number upon entering the country. But, I can't be certain.

On a side note, that french import tag which says 1996 is probably the model year it is considered for the french market, because clearly the car is a 95 according to the facts presented to me in this thread, and thats what the title says which ultimately goes to the car. Funny how USD cars have a left door vin tag with a build date, this car has the CHARLES POZZI import tag in addition to the european vin tag on the right side door jamb.

Again, I sincerely thank you all for the update. I would like to clear the air and say that you brothers have all been great. I don't consider this an argument and I appreciate all the input everyone has provided and look forward to meeting anyone local. Lets all enjoy our cars, regardless of what we paid for them!

On a side note, the targa top was removed immediately and I drive it around with the heat blasting (when I got it the heat valve was sticking off, since resolved) , what a ride!

Maybe I will change the wheels, I feel they make the car look a little dated but I am still on the fence. What do you all think? Better than the bronze?

Hats of to Carb for nailing the number/letter change thing to wash a title and thank you intmd8 for posting the report.

If the new owner didn't know this before you did him a service.

 

Hey Dr Bob, first time I will agree with you here, hats off for their detective work. But, the title wasn't washed, the car is an import non standard vin. (DMV's words, not mine!) You could check with the jersey dmv as well, they required this vin to be verified before giving me title, all of which was done before purchase. I was uncertain because it was grey market myself and didn't know the rules

So no, there hasn't been a title wash, but there was a silly clerical error at some point on the vin for sure!

Your car had a salvaged title before your ownership it appears. Good info for you to know and to relay to prospective buyers when you sell it.

 

The digit in question is number seven (2 or Z). Digits six and seven indicate model and 42 is listed as F355 or F355 GTS. There is no listing by Ferrari for a model with 4Z so the vin shown on the data plate is correct and whoever was the dealer that posted with the 2 just made a mistake. This info comes from Ferrari so please people check your facts before you try to brand something what it is not.

The car didn't have a salvage title, the autocheck shows a 2009 accident as you can see above. It clumps this statement together and says "negative title or record at salvage auction", which induces one to mistakenly believe it actually had a salvage title. This specific issue was discussed in a previous thread about this car. I can see how you made the mistake, their wording is deceiving, I have also made the same mistake before.

Also, only a snippet of the report is being shown above, how about posting the entire thing so we can all see the truth.

If I am wrong, I will gladly stand corrected, but it is unfair to call the car salvage if it isn't.

And of course anybody who would buy this car in the future if I sell would know all about its past, there is nothing to gain by hiding anything This car is a survivor and it has withstood the test of time.

Lastly, you can even read from the previous ad when it was damaged a few years back that it wasn't reported to insurance. Again, their words, not mine.

So is the vin on the title 2 or Z?

If Ferrari info states Z vin does not exist, how does an autocheck report show the exact vin with Z instead of 2 and salvage history? If it was never registered as such wouldn't it come up as nothing when searched?

 

You are entitled to your anonymity but in multiple posts you expressed your desire to meet people here at public meets , etc. Ax I implied to you many posts ago, being anonymous does not enhance your fraternity here. To each his own.

Also, as I told you, the Internet is transparent and folks on here are smart, successful , intelligent and enthusiastic. The original ad for this car stated it had a Sandy event. That sale consummated at 20k. It is reasonable to assume that that price and that statement are correlated. I make that assumption personally.

As I have said from the beginning, it is your car and at this point other than a vague reference to being open to sell it, it is not for sale. I also am not a buyer so this is just two guys talking publically.

The discussions and disclosures in this thread will help you when you decide to sell be forthcoming with the next owner.

 

I am very excited to take this car at public meets etc. That is different than posting my name and location with a photo of my Ferrari on the internet full of theives, my personal choice.

Rather than circumvent, how about answering the friendly post I wrote about the autocheck above? The car is not salvage, so enough with the untrue statements, I would appreciate that.

Fact: Car has been sold in the past stating it had a sandy event, none of which we know the extent of. The sale you reference at 20k was an ebay sale that never went through, and is irrelevant because the car is worth substantially more now (was sold non running back in 2013 apparently). Car was advertised on craigslist for $29888 non running as well, anyone can google and post this, but all of this means nothing because the car was repaired and resurrected. I would gladly have a sandy survivor and have a story with this car (which has no signs of being a flood car, see my photos or come see the car in person) vs spending double to just talk about my shrinking airbag cover. Been there done that.

I have been very forthcoming with the condition and improvements and that's why I have joined here as a member. You seem to know a lot about these 355's, and I am sure we can all coexist in a friendly fashion, so lets all get along shall we? People make mistakes and should admit it instead of circumvent facts and become evasive.

And for the record, vins match the car, it is legally registered and insured! This is my last rebuttal as it is obvious that certain members here just want to degrade the vehicle which has been proven unsuccessful so far.

I think between the wheels, the window tint, and the smoked lights, its too much black and the lines of the car are being hidden.

No offense, but at first blush the pic above looks like the car could be confused for an 80's Trans Am. Not hating, just my personal view.

I'm all for your efforts to "save" this car mechanically and I personally would like to see it back to its factory aesthetics.

Maybe you could even sell the current wheels to a member here who fancies a bit of a change.

 

I think this is why he whited out the VIN on the title picture. He's feigning ignorance, but he knows exactly what's going on. The mistake in the VIN has been around since at least early 2011, but maybe even earlier. It's possible that when the mistake occurred, it was just that - a mistake. But it became more of a happy accident when someone wanted to take a salvage-titled car and pass it off as a car with no questionable history.

 

Are the Ferrari vin numbers not all in numerical order? The last 6 digits on this one would make it a 1995 model. The 102xxx last digits are all 95s but this one is stamped as a 96. Does anybody know if this is possible as all the 96s are 103xxx and 104xxx 105xxx and 106xxx?

 

This car is a 1995. At least when it left the factory it was. 102602 is right in the middle of 1995 production.

The registry isn't perfect, but there is enough data there to tell where approximate model year cut offs were in production.

I think he did make mention of it being a euro model . I may be wrong , someone correct me if i am , but i believe in some european countries the title model year corresponds to the date the car was initiallly sold , so a car built in 95 and not sold until 96 would be titled as a 96 , i think , lol

I haven't feigned ignorance at any time. The only subterfuge present here is by other members towards my car. I know some are upset that this car is a survivor on the road, It is clearly evident by your posts. The car NEVER HAD A SALVAGE TITLE, it had an ACCIDENT on the autocheck in 2009. NOTHING WAS WASHED, NOT BY PREVIOUS OWNERS NOR ME. I have no control over VIN reassignments because the car is an IMPORT, nor do you.

The car actually has a vin for US market, a federalized requirement 49 CFR 565, so you are sadly wrong and mis informed and just manipulating the facts as usual. Nobody tried to pass it off as a no questionable history car, so enough. The history of the car is all over the internet, and this forum isn't carfax so stop hating, I know y'all want to be the god of all vin numbers but jeez let it go, this one is an anomaly. How many EURO 355 cars are even in the US?

I think this photo sums up Ferrarichat feelings about the car. I know most can't stand me having the last word here its a lot to let your egos down, but lets stop with the BS. The car was never salvage, I know you all WISH it were, but it didn't happen. I agree it had some past events that were negative, but the car is here today withstanding the test of time.

No one is upset the car is on the road or upset at all, just keeping the facts straight.

And the fact is both ZFFPR4ZB000102602 and ZFFPR42B000102602 with different history's are both your car.

Not too many cars have 2 vin numbers for no reason so post up the title with the vin.

 

Hey I was just asking about the vin. By chance one of my cars is a 96 and as luck would have it came from the same dealer in France and my vin is a 104xxx not a 102xxx. I was just wondering thats all.

 

Fwiw my post was in response to the one above it. I am in agreement with Steve that the vin on this car puts it in 95 production.

Why does the plate on the car say 96? I'm not sure.

John offered the possibility of Euro cars being titled by date of sale but that wouldn't explain why the title shows it as a 95.

 

Wow, thats ironic your car came from CHARLES POZZI France as well? So, how does your vin number look, and what are the U.S federalization numbers? Based on what is written in this thread, it cant be the same number, right? Since your car came from the same import company, I think you know where I am heading with this.

All of you are missing a critical piece of information that none of the detectives have been able to figure out thus far. Anyone who saw the car in person would have noticed this as well. It is quite obvious. I am also surprised that the vin guru does not know the answer to this, he seems to have alot of experience on his C.V about Ferrari's and this is amateur stuff.

So, how about one of the people who inspected this car post up a pic of the missing piece of the puzzle? It has nothing to do with the false accusations of washing, salvage, or anything of the like. I know its killing you and you all really want me to post my title on a public forum, but I'll leave it to the pros here. You all know more about this car than I and clearly do a better job than any state DMV.

Car is a 95 according to the experts, french import tag says a 96, sounds like the car needs to go to a junkyard after all, I am lost.

I think at this point no one cares about this car specifically. What is of interest to Fchat members is what happens to a grey market "Euro car" when imported to the USA and how someone with the DMV or otherwise could change a VIN (intentionally or by accident) and have it go through onto the title and or internal records.

We are happy you are saving the car. I appreciate it. The history is what it is. Drive it and fix it. Enjoy.
