Yes. The fact that the car is here in canada, the insurance companies he was dealing with would not insure it coming across the boarder. He tried everything. Never mind his personal expenditures to Ferrari to get a clearance letter which was approved. I feel awful about the whole thing. The red tape is crazy.
The guy that bought my mondial also had no problem. Was the car you imported over 15yrs old? If so what did you pay for your EPA letter?
Yes, it's a 95. FNA didn't charge me for the letter but said in the future there would be a fee. (not sure how much)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHwIWFZKfKw Hagerty panel: 348 and 355 prices will be "flat". Long video but skip ahead 40:00 or so and I think they get into Ferraris around there.
If I were investing, I wouldn't put my money on me vs. Mr. Carini. But he talks about the climbing 308/328, and then says that the 355 'may' go up a bit with the 348 flat. I have driven & ridden in the 308/328s back in the 80s and found them less than 'thrilling' while my 355 is a thrilling car. When I decided to get back in the F-car game, I chose the 355, and I'm dumbfounded by the prices of the smaller V-8s.
They made a lot less of the 308 is my understanding? I assume that goes towards its collectabity? I would not argue the F355 being a better car. At least for my use the 308 wouldn't do it for me. But I'm not a collector. I'm buying a car to enjoy driving it.
Visit the 308/328 section. The owners drive their cars often and keep them for years. Very balanced, no driver aids, etc. They have a special appeal but run out of steam above 150 mph.
I have some older stuff that's dead slow (yes even compared to a 308) but I still enjoy driving it. Would love to have a carbed 308 but it's obvious I waited too long!
Like 12000 total. About 3000 GTB carbureted 1975-1980, 500 2 valve injected GTB 1981-1982 (there were dogs), and 750 4 valve GTB 1983-1985. The rest were GTS.
Thanks for posting this, found it both interesting and humorous especially the demographics question and references to Viagra LOL. At C&C, 95% of 308/328/Mondial owners fall into that demographics with some spilling into the 348/355 area. Younger rich guys tend to have the 360 - 458.
I just watched the entire Hagerty YouTube. It was very interesting, but there was a very important disconnect from most of us. They were talking "COLLECTOR" cars. We are talking (generally) drivers. Even our local concours winners are still drivers, not collector cars.
Agreed. I'm curious, who here bought their car for purely an investment? I bought mine because it was my dream car in high school and do not have plans to sell even if the value goes up.
Wayne sells a lot of stuff. Not just high dollar cars or Ferraris. His shop is about 10 miles form me. I've met both Wayne and Mile several times, not that I know him well. Check out his inventory, Classic Cars For Sale | Antique Vehicles and Exotics | F-40 Motorsports in Portland, CT, 06480 Sure you will find Daytona spiders and 246 Dinos and such in his show room from time, but he sells a lot of nice, sub $100k cars in the local market. Also cars on connsignment. Back in the 80's and 90's Wayne's shop was at a different location, called Continental Auto Body, and was a typical body shop where they also did restorations. He then moved to the current location where F40 and Continental were side by side.Eventually it all became F40 and the general body shop closed in favor of just doing restorations. But what he is saying is that 3x8 cars have reach the status of desirable collector cars and potential investments. 348 and 355 are still in the used Ferrari category.
Most here say their car will never be for sale , so values are basically irrelevant for thhose guys , myself one of them ,but its nice to know , even with values described as " flat" we are driving cars that are not depreciating like 99% of cars on the road .life can change , situations arise , its nice to know there is xxxxxxx amount of dollars sitting there in the garage that is at least not losing money , and is most likrly gaining value , that can be cashed in if some unfortunate life changing event occurs . Money in a bank account certainly doesnt make the sound our cars make . 1994 ferrari 348 spider , third owner purchased may 2013 w/ 27804 miles
