I hear it all three ways, so what is the proper pronunciation od Modena? Mod-in-a, Mod-na or Moe-Dena?

I've heard it pronounced mod na as well as moe di nuh but I'm sure it's just a personal pronunciation preference.

It should be pronounced Moe - den - a.

And Countach should be pronounced Coon - Taack because CH always equals a hard K in Italian.

I'd guess that pronunciation of the city name varies across Italy.

How do you pronounce New Orleans? ;)

To avoid the derision of snobs I just call it a 360. You still have people calling Porsche... Porsh. It truly is of no consequence but if your in Modena, Italy don't forget to ask a local.

Like the American cook show hosts who pronounce Worcestershire Sauce Wore cester shire when it should be Wustershire -- I should know I'm from there. :)

A thought...does it not depend on which language that you are speaking in? Certainly if you are saying "cat" in Italian, it is different than in English. If you are saying "Porsche" in German, should it not sound a bit different than in English...same for "Modena" in Italian?

I have been to Modena nine times, and have heard both Maw-deh-nah and Moe-deh-nah, with the accent of course on the first syllable. Sometimes the "d" in the second syllable is pronounced as "th." Fred

Usually Italian words are pronounced with the emphasis on the second to last syllable.

Two other Italian cities come to mind: Padova (Padua) and Genova (Genoa). They are also pronounced with the accent on the first syllable. Fred
