Thanks Desperado.. Gave up a steel Rolex Daytona in the short term. Looking to replace it down the road with a vintage Daytona. Just have to find the right one. Which isn't easy. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This one I didn't know I still had but finding it after 27 years in a drawer, down in the basement, buried under a load of equally forgotten ancillary stuff brought back a lot of keen memories. I remember buying this Timex back in late 1988 at age 17 during my stay in England for fear of losing or ruining my then almost new Rado Diastar. I think it cost me GBP 18. Earlier this week I was shuffling around old possessions in the vain attempt to decide what to keep further and what to let go for good when per chance I came across to my Timex. Its original plastic strap was completely dried up and had broken in several pieces. I immediately thought that the battery had leaked, ruining the movement and was about to toss it in the rubbish bin when on an impulse I decided to open the case back and make sure. You cant believe my surprise in finding out that there was no battery and that the entire movement was absolutely in mint condition. Upon closer inspection I discovered no scratches on the acrylic crystal and the gold plating shows no signs of discoloration. Today I went to my local jeweler to have a new battery fitted and the old strap replaced with a faux crocodile leather one. It now happily ticks away on my wrist and, although nothing fancy or expensive or incredibly valuable, it will stay with me for a long time and will be worn in rotation with my other watches. Thanks Paps. This one is a classic and has been on my list for awhile, but it is not one I was referring too! Haven't been able to put a deal together for that one just yet. Hopefully someday soon. Have a great weekend. Cheers.
