A/C was not popular here in Germany for a long time, and classic cars are considered more raw and higher valued if they are without today. Most 75/76 930 sold in Germany were without A/C.

From my point of view definitely for "RS" or "GT" type of cars this could be true.

But in my opinion the Turbo was the high end model of the Porsche line-up and the more you got the full equipment spec, probably the better.

Also I think that the Turbo is more a Touring/ Grand Tourismo type of car than a racing car. It can go fast but is not really agile, is it?

In the end it might not be of any importance at all for a are model like that.

The Turbo was designed as a “Comfort” model vs. “Race Sport Cars” previously designed in the Porsche 911 lineage (diagram from the Apr '75 Christophorus). That being said, early Turbos are unique and I would argue that unusual fitment is an exception to the rule: “more options are better”. Take the sunroof for example. It should logically add value to 3-liter 930’s but the reality is that many (myself included) see a non-optioned sunroof as something different and sportier and therefore, more desirable. U.S. Turbos have always had A/C but for RoW, it was an option and once again, non-A/C saves weight (over 80 lbs), provides different bodywork for the ‘75/76 tail’s smaller secondary grill, and really doesn't work well compared to A/C designs today. In my opinion, the option that truly adds the most value to 3-liter Turbos is sport seats. The 1975-1979 Recaro sports seats are the ultimate in style and comfort and transform the driving experience. Nothing compares to the early sport seats and even the redesigned 1980+ sport seats lack the high bolsters and narrower design of the previous Recaros.

They are only a few pounds heavier than the standard seats since they are all manual. The later electric sport seats are very heavy but comparison. I have several versions of each and I'll put them on the scales.

The homologated (FIA nr. 645 and 3076) standard front seat (s) weight is just 10.35 lbs, complete with supports and rails.

An early sport seat feels light for what it is, when you lift it, but I admit I never had one on the scales.

Wooow, we must be talkin about different seats here. I'm pretty sure the early Recaros are considerably lighter than that.

Yikes - sport seats 44 lbs (each) with rails, all black leather with 1976 date codes.

Standard seats 32 lbs (each) with rails, all black leather with 1976 date codes.

Much heavier than I thought...not anywhere close to the homologation weights.

Ok I doubled checked 39 lbs with one slider, this is a the correct 74-80 Recaro sport seat, I'll post pics once I get a charge in camera battery. I've owned many sets of these and shipped them all over the place - I don't know what anyone considers light but they don't strike me as being light. I think the 81-84 version may be a little lighter but I don't have one of those right now to compare with.

I stand corrected, not exactly very light weight. I just thought they felt light in my hands.

You’re right Phil…the 81-84 sports seats are lighter. I would never have guessed this without putting them on the scale. Keep in mind this is a bathroom scale weighing me with and without the seat so there is a ± error factor.

1976 black leather sports seats with rails ~43 lbs each (one at 44 the other at 43)
1976 black leather standard seats with rails ~31 lbs each (one at 30 the other at 31)
1977 black leather standard seats with rails ~32 lbs each
1980.5 light red leather sports seats with rails ~33 lbs each (bought these years ago for my 1979 Turbo years but d’oh - they are the ’81-84 style)

Drove my 1979 930 Turbo today and noticed the wipers are the smaller 17mm versions with aluminum caps. They are very similar to the 1975 versions but have covers and an open-ended nut vs. the acorn nut (visible when you tilt the cover open). Perhaps the 23mm wipers with plastic caps did not appear until the 1984 Carrera (w/ the 964 part number mentioned in your post)??

Quite surprised the early sport seats weighted that much more.

But still only ~24 lbs more (total) than standard seats. I don't have a pair of the later electric seats but they probably weigh quite a bit more than the early sports.

I was surprised the '74-80 sport seats weigh more than the '81-84 manual seats but the later seats do have thinner bolsters and wider seating area (perhaps lighter padding material?). The '81-84 sports feel different than the early sports as I had them in my 1979 Turbo for a few years until I reinstalled the original standard seats. The early sports in My '75 Turbo almost require you to "saddle up" in the driver's seat since the bolsters are so thick but they feel so right with a much sportier feel than any other Recaro seat I've tried.

So guess its had the door jamb replaced/repaired and a re-spray?

Love the body colored early mirror on these cars.
